First Look at NBC’s Dracula

Dracula - Season 1

NBC has unveiled the first images and trailer for Dracula, a retelling of the Bram Stoker classic created by Cole Haddon.

In this new version, which was ordered by the network last week, Jonathan Rhys Meyers (The Tudors) stars as the legendary vampire, living a double life in London as an American entrepreneur who desires to introduce modern science to Victorian society. But secretly the Count is plotting revenge on the people who ruined his life centuries earlier — that is, until he falls hopelessly in love Mina Murray (Arrow‘s Jessica De Gouw), who appears to be the reincarnation of his dead wife.

The 10-episode limited series, which will air Fridays at 10 p.m. this fall, also stars Thomas Kretschmann (King Kong, The River) as Van Helsing and Oliver Jackson-Cohen (Mr. Selfridge) as Harker, Katie McGrath (Merlin) as Lucy Westenra and Nonso Anozie (Game of Thrones) as Renfeld.

I wish they would stop dragging Stoker’s name into this. Just because they use the same characters doesn’t mean it’s in any way faithful to the book. It sounds like it should really be called, “NBC’s series based on DePalma’s film that was loosely based on Bram Stoker’s Dracula.”

It is certainly nice to see that it doesn’t appear to be updated to modern times…
