Vaughan & Chiang's "Paper Girls" Builds a Familiar Yet Disconcerting World
The apes shall ride again! We knew this on a general level, as Fox’s Rise of the Planet of the Apes sequel Dawn of the Planet of the Apes began filming recently, but now, thanks to the first officially behind-the-scenes image from director Matt Reeves, we can see it for ourselves.
The photo arrived via Twitter, along with the short but sweet message, “A New Dawn…” Andy Serkis is featured in his motion-capture suit riding a horse and interacting with Jason Clarke, whose fellow survivors appear to be lurking in the background. That definitely looks like Keri Russel. The film also stars Gary Oldman, Judy Greer, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Kirk Acevedo, Enrique Murciano and Toby Kebbell.
Here’s the film’s official synopsis:
A growing nation of genetically evolved apes led by Caesar is threatened by a band of human survivors of the devastating virus unleashed a decade earlier. They reach a fragile peace, but it proves short-lived, as both sides are brought to the brink of a war that will determine who will emerge as Earth’s dominant species.
Dawn of the Planet of the Apes arrives May 23, 2014.
