Axel-In-Charge: Navigating the "Civil War II" Landscape, Bringing DMC to Marvel
The cast of FX’s The Strain is quickly coming together with the addition of Jonathan Hyde (Titanic) and Richard Sammel (Inglourious Basterds).
Based on the series of novels by Guillermo del Toro and Chuck Hogan, the story centers on a vampire virus that infects New York City, and the Centers for Disease Control doctor, Ephraim Goodweather (Corey Stoll of House of Cards), who investigates the outbreak.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Hyde will play nefarious, immortality-obsessed billionaire Eldritch Palmer while Sammel (above) will portray Thomas Eichorst, right-hand man to the Master, one of the seven original vampires.
Produced by Carlton Cuse, the pilot also stars Mia Maestro as CDC scientist Nora Martinez and Kevin Durand as exterminator Vasily Fet.
The Strain still needs to cast some important roles like the Master, concentration camp and Master survivor Prof. Abraham Setrakian, rock star Gabriel Bolivar, Ephraim’s ex-wife Kelly and their son Zack, among others.
The project is still only in the pilot stage and hasn’t been ordered to series. However, if it is, expect the first season to be 13 episodes. The pilot was written by del Toro and Hogan, the former is slated to direct as well.
