Booster Gold Pilot Script May Finally Go to Syfy Next Week

booster goldIt’s been more than a year since Syfy touted a live-action Booster Gold series as part of its development slate, and during that time we’ve heard little about the planned DC Comics adaptation. However, the project still lives.

Responding to a question last night on Twitter, Arrow Executive Producer Andrew Kreisberg revealed, “The script is going to SyFy next week!” Of course, something similar was said in July and November, so there’s probably little reason for fans to get their hopes up. Still, it appears as if the project remains in active development.

Ordered by the cable channel in November 2011, the pilot is produced by Kreisberg and Berlanti, part of the team behind The CW’s breakout drama Arrow.

Created by Dan Jurgens, Booster Gold debuted in 1986 as a failed sports star from the 25th century who, with the help of a security robot named Skeets, stole a Legion flight ring, Brainiac 5’s force field belt and Rip Hunter’s time machine and traveled to our time to become a superhero. Initially interested only in fame and wealth, Booster evolved over the years, becoming a member of the Justice League (where his friendship with Blue Beetle became a fan-favorite pairing) and, in more recent years, a central player in DC events.

The Syfy pilot looks to return the character to his earliest characterization, as a washed-up athlete from the future who travels back in time to become the world’s greatest superhero.

“The script is going to SyFy next week!” Have scarier words ever been uttered?

Not going to work. His primary characterization is of fame and fortune. Might as well as have a Flash then. The real story is the Blue Beetle and Justice League. The early characterization will make it corny. A Flash Series would of been better and still funny.

The first plot line in the show involves BG battling a pair of giant half Shark quarter Whale, Quarter Octopus type animal in the middle of desert. Typical SyFy movie stuff.

please have Skeets played by Billy West.

The pilot wasn’t “ordered” in November 2011 – it was added to their development slate. That’s a BIG difference. Ordered means that, 99% of the time, the pilot will get shot. This has just been put in development. When it’s ordered to pilot then it will get made and then we’ll have to wait a bit more to see if it gets a series order.

i believe this will work perfectly specially with syfy channel and a nice budget. like sliders did its thing in the past now this show should have a good go but with a bigger budget behind them via DC Comics and Warner Bros, plus since these guys helped with the Arrow series and knew how to handle it realistically without bullshit powers itd be nice to see something down to earth but now on syfy for that science fiction love of time travel and maybe any futuristic objects he might use at his disposal.

Spoken by someone who does not actually know a thing about the character :U He’s a selfish douche on the surface, but as the character evolved its become clear he has a heart of gold underneath that. At least, when GOOD writers handle the character.
