John C. Reilly Orbiting Role in Guardians of the Galaxy

Academy Award nominee John C. Reilly reportedly has been offered a role in Marvel’s Guardian of the Galaxy, the highly anticipated space adventure directed by James Gunn.

According to HitFix, the studio wants him to play Rhomann Dey, described as an Agent Coulson-type character who will serve as a liaison between S.H.I.E.L.D. and the Guardians. Comics fans may remember Rhomann Dey as the last surviving member of the intergalactic space police force Nova Corps who lands on Earth and transfers his helmet and powers to Richard Rider. This information certainly hints at the inclusion of Nova or the Nova Corps.

Opening Aug. 1, 2014, the film stars Chris Pratt as Star-Lord, David Bautista as Drax, Zoe Saldana as Gamora, Michael Rooker as Yondu and Lee Pace as an unspecified villain who, HitFix suggests, “will eventually switch sides so he can be set up for his own spin-off film.”

Hmmm …. “unspecified villain who switches sides?” My first thought was Captain Marvel and his defection from the Kree. (and Ronan’s supposed to be the main villain, no?)

    What about SWORD?

“Serving as a liaison between SHIELD and the Guardians” Implies that SHIELD has known about aliens well before Thor came to earth. Making it something else that Fury has lied about.

Rhomann Dey might also be a hardass who also acts as a kind of probation officer giving the Guardians grief.
