Arnold Schwarzenegger Confirms He’ll Be Back For Terminator 5

Much like an aging rock band from the ’70s, Arnold Schwarzenegger is on a kind of greatest-hits tour. But instead of belting out classic jams, he’s returning to many of the roles that made him famous. In May, the former governor said Terminator 5 was being written along with The Legend of Conan and Triplets. The Arnold Fans talked to the man himself recently about his involvement in those films and he had this to say:

In fact, I’m very happy that the studios want me to be in Terminator 5 and to star AS the Terminator, which we start shooting in January and I’m also going to do King Conan – to play that role and also to do another Twins movie. So I feel very proud of that. I feel very happy and I’m looking forward to doing those films.

Schwarzenegger’s confirmation comes days after reports that Paramount Pictures nearing a deal with Megan Ellison’s Annapurna Pictures and David Ellison’s Skydance Productions to distribute the film. That combined with the star’s reveal of a January start date for filming makes us think that the script by Laeta Kalogridis (Shutter Island) and Patrick Lussier (Drive Angry) from January is still on the table.

The actor has appeared in three of the four existing Terminator films, skipping the most recent outing, Terminator: Salvation as well as the short-lived TV series The Sarah Connor Chronicles. 1984’s The Terminator, directed by James Cameron, earned $78 million worldwide off of a $6.4 million budget. The next three movies — 1991’s T2, 2003’s Rise of the Machines and 2009’s Salvation — have earned a combined $1.3 billion worldwide. Everyone involved is surely hoping the new film will continue that profitable tradition, even though Schwarzenegger’s last starring role in The Last Stand didn’t recoup its budget in theaters.

You know what would be awesome? If he played a human character. That terminator had to be based of someone.

In the deleted scenes of Terminator 3 they show him as the guy that the Terminator was based on. He had this awe-shucks accent, etc.

I’m glad that Arnold Schwarzenegger is coming back in Terminator 5. It would be equally awesome to add the beautiful and talented Summer Glau to the new Terminator movie. Summer gained a lot of geek cred by playing two of the most iconic roles in recent sci-fi history (River in Joss Whedon’s Firefly and Cameron in the tv serie Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles). She did wonderful things during the last decade which we’ll never forget. Perfect, astonishing characters full of life and realism, in each of her shows and movies. Despite how pretty Summer Glau is, she is such a gutsy performer who just throws herself completely into her character. Summer Glau’s name is regularly quoted in the medias (and by fans alike) when a new blockbuster is in the making; please Megan Ellison, Annapurna Pictures and Paramount Pictures, do yourself and your Terminator movies a favor, watch some tapes of her performance and include her in the casting process.
