LOOK: Frank Miller's "Dark Knight III" Wraparound Variant Revealed
HBO has passed on the Hobgoblin pilot from Michael Chabon and his wife Ayelet Waldman, The Wrap reports.
The project cernters on a group of con men and magicians during Word War II who use their unique talents to aid in the effort against Adolf Hitler’s regime. While Black Swan director Darren Aronofsky was originally slated to direct Hobgoblins, the website says he left the project earlier this year. The show would have marked his directorial debut in television.
However, it’s possible the two years the project has been under development won’t go to waste: FX might pick up the pilot, but it’s currently only a rumor.
Chabon, best known for his 2000 novel The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay, is no stranger to Hollywood, having worked with director Andrew Stanton on John Carter of Mars. The author’s novel The Yiddish Policeman’s Union was under development for Columbia Pictures under the arm of the Coen brothers, but the rights have since been returned to Chabon. The author also wrote Wonder Boys, the basis of the 2000 film.
