Latest R.I.P.D. TV Spot Takes Aim With a Banana

A new TV spot for R.I.P.D. has hit the web, and it is bananas.

Ryan Reynolds and Jeff Bridges star as partners in the Rest in Peace Department, one a recently deceased street cop, the other a long-dead sheriff from the old West. The two join forces to track down rogue spirits who walk among the people of Earth, and in the process, they uncover a plot that could destroy all life as we know it.

The new R.I.P.D. spot hammers home much of what we already know about the movie, especially one of the movie’s greatest gags: when Reynolds and Bridges’ characters are on Earth, humans see them in the form of James Hong and Marisa Miller, respectively. We get to see a little bit more of how that plays out in the film, including the fact that it’s not just Reynolds’ own appearance that changes when mortals view him, but the appearance of his ghost-busting gun as well.

R.I.P.D. arrives on July 19.

This still looks hilariously bad and as a parody of MIB maybe it would work. The saddest part of this is the great James Hong being involved and not in the lead role he deserves. What a waste. The guns are lousy.

How many times has the dead cop premiss been done since the 80’s,

    15-20 times?

But Reynolds and Bridges together does sound interesting.

They’ve both been highlights in action type movies recently IMO.

Wolverine had problems but I thought Reynolds was good in it.

James Hong is rarely ever in a lead role.

    I agree that he’s great,
but he’s a great character actor like Lance Henrickson.

    Funny you mentioned the guns,
they seem more then a little derivative of Deckards multi-barreled pistol IMO.
