X-Men: Days of Future Past Adds Josh Helman in ‘Significant’ Role

The cast of X-Men: Days of Future Past has just added one more name to its ranks.

According to TheWrap.com, actor Josh Helman (The Pacific, Animal Kingdom) has joined director Bryan Singer’s Fox sequel in an unnamed but “significant” role, as he’s “expected on set for several weeks.” Interestingly, this is one of the first casting announcements that hasn’t debuted on Singer’s own Twitter account — perhaps a sign that the filmmaker wanted to keep this particular secret under wraps, or that the role is minor enough that he didn’t feel the news was worth sharing.

Regardless, Helman joins as massive cast that includes James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Nicholas Hoult, Jennifer Lawrence, Hugh Jackman, Ian McKellen, Patrick Stewart, Halle Berry, Anna Paquin, Ellen Page, Shawn Ashmore, Peter Dinklage, Daniel Cudmore, Omar Sy, Booboo Stewart, Fan Bingbing, Adan Canto and Evan Peters.

X-Men: Days of Future Past opens July 18, 2014.

I have never heard of a film adding cast members during filming. And Singer has done it twice.

This just looks like Singer is making it up as he goes along. So I don’t see how this doesn’t become an incoherent mess of a movie.

It’s not that uncommon, particularly for secondary roles whose scenes won’t be shot until later on the production schedule. Plus, the reports sometimes emerge well after the actor has been cast.
