Lionsgate Drafts Julianne Moore as The Hunger Games President


Julianne Moore might be making the jump from vice presidential hopeful to commander-in-chief, as Deadline reports the actress who won an Emmy for her portrayal of Sarah Palin in Game Change is in talks to play President Alma Coin in Lionsgate’s two-part The Hunger Games: Mockingjay.

The studio had a huge hit on its hands with The Hunger Games, which grossed $691 million. Director Francis Lawrence (Water for Elephants, I Am Legend) is filming the sequel Catching Fire with stars Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Elizabeth Banks, Stanley Tucci, Woody Harrelson, Donald Sutherland and Philip Seymour Hoffman. The director has also signed on to film The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 and Part 2.

Catching Fire opens Nov. 22, while Mockingjay Part 1 and 2 have tentative Nov. 21, 2014 and Nov. 20, 2015 release dates.
