‘Beware the Batman’ Ad Teases Series’ Wonderfully Obscure Rogues Gallery

beware the batman adToday’s DC Comics releases include a full-page ad for Beware the Batman that teases at least part of the rogues for the CG-animated series, which debuts Saturday on Cartoon Network.

Some of the villains, like Anarky, Professor Pyg, Mr. Toad and Magpie, were previously announced and have been featured prominently in promotional materials. However, the other faces are harder to identify: The character in the upper-left, which looks to be an albino gorilla, is presumably Ultra-Humanite, who’s probably not among the, oh, top 20 names that come to mind when you’re rattling off Batman foes. On the right, beneath Professor Pyg, may be Humpty Dumpty.

The remaining two — at the top-center and bottom-right — will have to be left up to someone better versed in Dark Knight lore, or at least a better guesser. Hey, it was promised from the very beginning that the show would delve deep into the Caped Crusader’s “villain library.”

“We went in deeper into the villain library and pulled out some other villains,” Warner Bros. Animation’s Sam Register said in October 2011. “We didn’t want to do another Joker story — there’s too many of them. We just needed to do something new, so we’re starting off with new villains.”

Beware the Batman debuts Saturday at 10 a.m. ET/PT on Cartoon Network.

The monkey dude looked more like he was wearing a mask. If not, maybe he’s Gorilla Boss.

The lady on the right might be Talia or Lady Shiva.

The dude in green might be The Key.

I love that they’re doing this, similar to Batman: Brave and the Bold, and reinterpreting crazy older villains into some new. This is the kind of stuff that gets an interesting new Magpie or Gorilla Boss of Gotham back into the DCnU.

I love a good Joker, Catwoman, Two-Face, etc. story, but I equally love this kind of creativity that transforms old, less popular villain into something new.

  • Starman

I think the guy under professor pyg is Tobias Whale

  • Chad

I was thinking the guy under Professor Pyg was a redesigned Egghead.

  • cyberwulf

the green guy must be the ten eyed man or axel alex ps the guy under pyg is humpty dumpty whale has a chin similar to a whale hence the name

  • JokersNuts

Guy under Pyg could be Humpty Dumpty, but it’s most likely one half of Tweedle-Dee and Tweedle Dum —

  • cyberwulf

the monkey must be gorilla boss a criminal whose brain was transpalted into a gorlla

  • JokersNuts

The guy under Pyg is more likely to be Tweedle-Dee or Tweedle-Dum. – –

  • cyberwulf

no it’s humpty dumpty he even looks like an egg if it was the tweedle twins they would have should them both

  • victorredman

I think the villain at the top center may be King Kobra, head of the Cobra cult. Think Marvel’s HYDRA with a snake motif.

  • cyberwulf

na can’t be Kobra jis costume is overtly techie maybe one of his henchmen

  • Retro315

The monkey is Silver Monkey, the assassin from Brotherhood of the Fist and other late 90s jaunts.

  • cyberwulf

turns out that the green guy is the key

  • Darima

The guy in white with the A on his chest could be a new Anarky?

  • i_am_thatdude

Bottom right looks like Queen Bee of Bialya

  • Michael Mah’moud

Well in the free comic book day issue Tobias White looked similar to the character people think is Humpty Sumptuous, Twiddle Dee/Dum so I’m pretty sure it’s Tobias

  • Blackfist

Why is Anarky White? i know he was inspired by Spy vs Spy but…

  • cyberwulf

i hope that the mad monk getaway genius kite-man and the monarch of menace show up on this show

  • cyberwulf

it is a theme anarky is the white king ang batman is the black king

  • cyberwulf

I also hope for the court of owls to appear in this show as well as the reaper and gotham’s first hero green lantern

  • rpi

The woman at the bottom is giving me a Lady Shiva vibe. For one reason or another, the green guy at the top reminds me of The Human Flea from Shadow of the Bat.

  • thewriteguy

Hopefully this series will gradually re-introduce Joker, Penguin, and the other classic Bat villains, but I wouldn’t mind it if this didn’t happen until a second season.

  • Summer

Magpie and Queen Bee, I’m sure.

  • Adam Walker

I hope the change the theme song.

  • Hey

The woman at the bottom right is Dr. Light.
    Look it up.

  • Captain Sigma

I think the lady in the lower right is Tala (old Phantom Stranger foe), last seen in Justice League Unlimited.

  • cyberwulf

actually that woman is madam zodiac she’s like the calculator for the gotham underworld but with magic not computers
