Black Widow Has ‘Huge Part’ in ‘Avengers’ Sequel, Joss Whedon Promises

Black Widow fans don’t need to worry about the Russian spy’s place in Avengers: Age of Ultron, as writer-director Joss Whedon promises big things for super-agent Natasha Romanoff when Earth’s Mightiest Heroes return for the 2015 sequel.

“Natasha is a huge part of the sequel because you do want to concentrate on the people who don’t have their own franchises,” Whedon said during a Nerd HQ interview at Comic-Con International. “Although she’s in Cap 2, [and] she’s great. She was the most fun for me because she’s not a hero, you know, and it’s something that I read — and I feel bad that I can’t remember who wrote the book — but it’s in one of the books explaining, ‘These guys are heroes, you are a spy. It’s a different thing — it’s a different skill set — and you don’t have their moral high ground or any of that good stuff.’ And that just makes her so interesting to me. So yeah, the stuff I’ve got going on with her in the second one is killer.”

That bodes well for fans of the Widow-Hawkeye pairing, as Whedon also said Clint Barton has much more to do in the Avengers sequel than the previous film: “He did get possessed pretty early by a bad guy and had to walk around all scowly for most of the movie, so now it’s nice to actually have the character there and see him interact with the other guys.”

We’ve seen Widow in Iron Man 2 and now Cap 2… more Hawkeye please.

  • Sanderman

Black Widow sucks, gives us a strong super powered female.

  • penguintruth

I’d give her a huge part… well, a part, anyway.

  • Katy

And at least introduce Captain/Ms Marvel and Mockingbird.

Shoving the one female Avenger in as many films as possible doesn’t make up for the lack of women.

  • Tim Freerksen

With a non-powered woman, the part will really have to push my suspension of disbelief.

  • Froinlaven

    Great news all around.

  • Chuck777

    Captain Marvel and She-Hulk!

  • andrew11

I would guess that Thor will be taking a backseat in this one. He wasn’t the focus of the first movie, but it was his relationship with his brother that was had the strongest connection to the plot.

It’s sounding like Stark is going to be the accidental creator of Ultron… which I hope doesn’t turn the movie into “Iron Man & Friends” again.

  • BigPhatPaulie

Widow and Hawkeye were by far the weakest characters in the Avengers Film. They should be replaced.

Iron Man, Hulk, and Loki made the movie.

like Aaron explained I didn’t even know that a person able to get paid $5055 in 1 month on the internet. have you seen this link www.KEP2.com

Just hoping that Joss isn’t increasing Natasha’s character stuff in the film by elaborating on her history with Hawkeye and using her romantically. The best thing about the way she was used in the first film was her emotional detachment when she was going about her business and delivering the hurt for anybody who gets in her way.Don’t really want to see her playing a larger role in the storyline at the expense of that. Please don’t do it that way.

  • Matt

Who the fuck cares about black widow? I want more hulk! He was only in the avengers movie for like 3 minutes total.

  • Dandru

She has TWO huge parts, actually.

  • Todd

“So yeah, the stuff I’ve got going on with her in the second one is killer.”

I may be looking too much into this but by killer maybe he is referencing she will go bad and be a traitor like she was in Ultimates 2.

  • Anonymous

So what he’s saying is that he’s going to pull a Joss Whedon and make you care about her throughout the film and then promptly kill her off?

  • Katy

More Hawkeye, more Hulk, more women, and some Avengers who aren’t white.

  • Anon

    Take a day off Katy.

  • chien_clean

Oh crap I hate Whedon and his feminist bullshit. Give a part to Hank Pym instead.

  • ComixVsReality

If you’re a male and this sounds like a bad idea to you, I predict someday you’ll have to come to terms with your latent homosexuality. I guess you all missed the fact she played a major part in the first Avengers flick…probably too busy gawking at Thor’s butt.

  • Mr Lawless

    They’ve confirmed Scarlet Witch…

  • Mr Lawless

I thought they said Falcon was going to be in it too?

  • Anon

Wow you are one amazing internet warrior fighting the good fight! Keep slaying those horrible demons of comic book movie casting! You are my hero.

  • Anon

God if they have to raise their black qouta i’d rather have Luke Cage, Falcon looks retarded.

  • Anon

Why is the Avengers such a magnet for the pc brigade? It’s not exactly about mysogynist white supremacists as far as i can tell…

  • Jimmy Russell

my dick has a huge part in her ass

  • John

Noooooooo! She was the worst part about Avengers. She couldn’t deliver lines and by far the last person I want to see in an Avengers movie exactly because she isn’t a hero as Joss puts it.

A bloated cast and what does he want to do? Focus on the least interesting person. There is a reason she doesn’t have her own franchise. Its like not having Iron Man have a major role just because he has his own franchise. They have the franchise because that is what people want to see. Blurg.

  • ComixVsReality

hmm well, not sure what your comment has to do with what I said but I’ll take the praise none the less, buttercup.

  • ComixVsReality

Yeah and it also seems to be a magnet for morons who might easily misinterpret a comment meaning “you might be gay if you’d rather see more dudes and less Scarlett Jo” as something PC.

  • Max

Perhaps….but how will Black Widow and her pistols fair against Demagorg the God Eater…much less Ultron?

  • Prince Dieoniysis

hopefully we get some backstory. all we know about her from the movies is shes just a slutty spy with a “dark” past.

  • The Real Chuck

    Miss Marvel, not cap

  • The Real Chuck

I guess having Pym guest star is too much to ask for

  • The Real Chuck

Its Miss Marvel, not captain or ms.

  • hooliganb
  • Dr James Tee

Crap, I thought they would get away from the black widow. She was the biggest joke in the first movie. Audible laugh in the theater when she was making a stand at the end of the movie against the aliens, shooting her little cap gun. Ridiculous.

  • SpiderwebGrayson

It’s Ms Chuck. Not Miss. Mssssss.

  • Stephy

So I guess the joke turned rather sour when she put up a good fight despite not having any real super powers of her own. :D Love Black Widow!
