James Gunn Vet Gregg Henry Joins ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’

Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy is shooting in London, but it’s evidently not too late for casting news, with actor Gregg Henry revealing Sunday on Twitter that he’s heading to the United Kingdom for an unspecified role in the film.

Henry previously worked with Guardians writer/director James Gunn on 2006’s Slither and 2010’s Super, and voiced a character in Gunn-penned video game Lollipop Chainsaw. He’s currently in the recurring role of Hollis Doyle on ABC’s Scandal, and recently appeared on the third season of AMC’s The Killing.

Guardians of the Galaxy stars Chris Pratt as Peter Quill, aka Star-Lord, Zoe Saldana as Gamora, Dave Bautista as Drax the Destroyer, Lee Pace as Ronan the Accuser, Michael Rooker as Yondu, Karen Gillan as Nebula, Djimon Hounsou as Korath, Benicio del Toro as The Collector, John C. Reilly as Rhomann Dey, and Glenn Close as Nova Prime. It opens Aug. 1, 2014.

Could he be voicing Rocket Raccoon?

    He’ll probably play StarLord’s dad.

  • Man Of Tomorrow.

I’d suggest he’s a credible candidate since his other work with James Gunn demonstrates all the comedic timing that would probably be needed for the delivery of that characters lines.Considering how integral Rocket Raccoon is to making the film work, you’d think Gunn would want somebody he knew he could rely on to portray him.Whoever he’s playing i’m sure he’ll benefit the movie as he’s a quality actor.Wasn’t British actress Ophelia Lovibond originally attached to Guardians Of The Galaxy as Nikki?

Ugh, I didn’t know Gunn wrote Lollipop Chainsaw. It’s such a Buffy ripoff, you’ve really got to see it to believe it. You can find videos of it on Youtube.

Gunn is the first Marvel director where I find myself hoping the studio *will* interfere.

I seem to recall Kevin Feige stating they were pretty happy with his work on the project so far at San Diego comic con and since Gunn is writing and directing the film ,i’m afraid you’re simply going to have to deal with it,if you just don’t like his work.I know he’s actually had the comics creators of his favourite Guardians comics on set for some of the filming so it seems to me that he really is invested in what he’s doing.Considering Whedon is a friend of his,i doubt Lollipop Chainsaw was really as derivative of Buffy as you thought.
