REVIEW: "DC Universe: Rebirth" #1 Makes the Future of DC Comics Look Genuinely Bright
Contrary to popular belief, the sequel to Mortal Instruments: The City of Bones isn’t dead in the water. Variety reports that Constantin Film is taking a look at the sequel, City of Ashes, with an eye toward shooting next year.
While the first film didn’t exactly kill at the box office, it did make $80 million worldwide off of a reported $60 million budget, according to Box Office Mojo.
“We are analyzing exactly what went wrong, and that needs some time,” Constantin board member Martin Moszkowicz said. “We’ll go back to the drawing board, and we’ll work on the screenplay; we’ll work on the elements of the movie; and then we’ll budget it.”
Moszkowicz added that, while a director has not yet been signed, they’re in talks with City of Bones helmer Harald Zwart as well as other potential candidates.
The Constantin board member went on to say that they’d like to start filming City of Ashes sometime next year, but are waiting to make sure they’ve fixed some of the problems they had the first time around.
The Mortal Instruments films are based on a young adult urban fantasy novel series written by Cassandra Clare. Five of a proposed six books have been published so far. City of Bones starred Lily Collins, Jamie Campbell Bower, Jared Harris, CCH Pounder, Lena Headey and Kevin Durand.
