‘Jack Reacher’ Director to Helm ‘Star Blazers’
Christopher McQuarrie (Jack Reacher, Mission: Impossible 5) will be going out of this world for an upcoming project. According to Deadline, the writer and director is attached to utilize both skills on Skydance’s Star Blazers adaptation.
McQuarrie was first mentioned in connection with the film in 2011, when Skydance acquired the rights. Now, with the recent success of co-productions like World War Z and Star Trek Into Darkness, Skydance is looking to get back to work on Star Blazers.
Originally known as Space Battleship Yamato in Japan, Star Blasters found a group of earthlings traveling through space on a converted World War II battleship to get their hands on a piece of alien tech that will help save their home planet. The original series was rewritten and dubbed for North American audiences where it lasted three seasons between 1979 and 1984. A total of 77 episodes were shown.
