Jaimie Alexander Addresses ‘Wonder Woman’ Rumors

If rumors are true, then Thor: The Dark World actress Jaimie Alexander is considering jumping ship on the Marvel Cinematic Universe and joining the ranks of the Man of Steel.

Alexander is one of several names linked to a character in Batman Vs. Superman that many believe to be Wonder Woman. Olga Kurylenko, Gal Godot and Elodie Yung are some of the others reportedly vying for the role. Alexander’s lips are sealed regarding the validity of the rumors, but when pressed during a recent appearance on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, her nervous reaction to the question spoke volumes.

“It would definitely be a cool job,” she eventually conceded about playing Wonder Woman. “I was a huge fan growing up, not just [of] the show, but the comic books too.”

It’s not the first time Alexander has fielded the Wonder Woman question in recent weeks. Just this month, she admitted she’s had “discussion with both companies,” referring to DC Entertainment and Marvel Studios, about future projects, before talking specifically about the DC Comics superhero.

“I’m a huge fan of Wonder Woman,” she said. “I really think if this is the closest that we’re ever going to get to Wonder Woman, then I’m proud to play Sif. I hope that other comic book entities can learn a lesson from Marvel in how to execute a female character the way it should be done. I really would like to one day see a Wonder Woman film or Wonder Woman character, but until it’s done with class, I’d rather it not be done.”

Watch Alexander’s reaction to Leno’s Wonder Woman inquiry in the video below:

    She looks amazing.

Certainly wouldn’t blame her if she chose WW if she had to choose between the two. If it goes through, Wonder Woman is a pretty big opportunity compared to a collective 15-20 minutes of face time in each Thor movie. I’d rather she be able to do both if she could of course.

  • Jay

Considering her role in Thor: The Dark World, I would hope she moves over to play WW. Greatly underused in Thor. If she did both, that would be amazing.

  • cynic44

If Chris Evans can be The Human Torch and Captain America serially, she should be able to play Sif and Wonder Woman in parallel (universes that is).

  • runner_j

She’d be a great Wonder Woman but for one thing: She’s too skinny. She’s one of many actresses and models who have succumbed to industry pressure to be a certain height-weight ratio and it’s leads to being skin and bones, which she very nearly is. Wonder Woman is an Amazon and not some skinny, emaciated chick.

  • Christopher King

If she would become WW, it would definitely be after giving up Sif. I know Chris Evans has played two characters but not at the same time. No one is thinking Chris is going to be the Human Torch again. While the WW gig sounds great, I hope she doesn’t just jump at an offer without seeing a script. Right now, Marvel just has the better track record. Yeah, she doesn’t have a lot to do in the Thor movies, but better some promise for future than being remembered like the thankfully dropped TV Pilot for WW.

  • Kitch

This. Seeing her and Idris Elba sidelined for like 20 minute roles was heartbreaking. If she’s smart, she’ll jump ship.

  • Mark

if by “other comic book entities can learn a lesson from Marvel in how to execute a female character the way it should be done” means only appears in 3 scenes of the movie while the damsel in distress is in 95% of the movie then yes SIf is a great example

Well if, and this is a big if, wonder woman is actually in Superman/Batman movie, Ms. Alexander would definitely have to give up her role at Marvel. There is no way WB or Disney would allow an actress to reprise both roles in the same films competing under the same genre with similiar characters. I’m going to go the more likely route and say that this casting is actually for Bruce Wayne’s date or business partner.

  • Happily LS

Marvel may be doing better in general, but Man of Steel did much better than either Thor.

  • gaytrekkie

Casting was very specific about being brunette and athletic. Why would Bruce Wayne’s date or business partner require something that specific?

  • gaytrekkie

Agreed, but diet and a little weight training can remedy that easily.

  • chai xiong

Perhaps they simply want someone who is his equal instead of another blonde CEO or fluffy date for him. Even minor roles have to be specific.

  • runner_j

She’s already very fit. She’s just needs to put on a good 10-15 pounds.

  • Kris Kail

Compared to what DC’s done with their female characters in film Marvel’s still hitting home runs.

  • Kris Kail

In the greater Marvel Universe Sif is such a minor character that it wouldn’t matter. It’s not like they have Robert Downey Jr. playing both Tony Stark and Bruce Wayne, she’s a minor Marvel character that probably won’t appear again and if she does it most definitely won’t be for many years.

  • Spider1982

In the Norse Mythology, Sif was the wife of Thor…in Marvel Sif has been around in character since 1964.In Asgard, she is married to Thor….when Thor or Sif is on earth, they are not married. Sif as a goddess has supernatural powers over the sun, snow, sleet, summer heat, she must eat golden apples to regain her youth and beauty. She is super strong and Thor is her second husband. She dressed like the Viking Warrior Queen. The Sif was worshiped by the Vikings to grant them a hot summer…if her hair turned white or bald, a heavy snow was a coming. It is speculated that Marvel is planning to make Sif 1 which Jaimie Alexander will play the Sif. If this is true, Jaimie Alexander will not have the time to play DC comic Wonder Woman. Sif is not a minor goddess in the Norse Mythology nor was she a minor character in the Marvel comic 1964, her job was to monitor Thor’s Hammar and Thor if he was alright if she was needed to help him…On earth, she is not his wife, he can have any woman he likes, she can have any male god she likes in Asgard.

  • Spider1982

In the current movie, Thor 2, Thor is concern about the mortal Dr. Jane Foster, she is attacked by something of the supernatural and he brings her to Asgard. Sif played by Jaimie Alexander is jealous of Dr. Jane Foster. She does not care what is wrong with her. Or how Odin, Thor’s father can help her. She is angry, since she is Thor’s wife. In time, they discover Dr. Jane Foster is being attacked by Dark Elves. They need Loki’s help, in the Norse Mythology and in the Marvel comic, Sif and Loki were lovers behind Thor’s back, Sif is bit too trusting when it comes to Loki’s charm, she cannot say no to him and his kisses..They fight together against the Dark Elves. Dark Elves want Asgard and the Earth. They want ice and snow…they are not Christmas Elves.

  • Spider1982

In the first Thor, Sif, Volstagg, Fandral are sent to earth by Bifröst…when Thor does not have his hammer he is mortal awhile walking on earth…Sif, Volstagg, Fandral are always ready and prepared to protect Thor awhile he is a mortal man…They are unworthy to take up the hammer. In this film, Sif, does not reveal she is Thor’s wife in Asgard. She concerned that Thor is doomed to be mortal without his hammer. Once Thor has his hammer, he is in full godhood and has power over the earth, he has power of lighting, rain, hurricane, flood, thunder.

  • Spider1982

Sif, Volstagg, Fandral when they are on earth, they have supernatural strength, agility and speed. They have their own special weapons…for Sif is the Jarnsaxa “Iron Sword” which she can and will if need be call on sleet, ice, snow if she cannot use her physical strength to protect Thor while he is on earth or in Asgard. Asgard is the Norse Mythology-Heaven.

  • Spider1982

Sif is not an Amazon nor is there an Amazon in the Norse Mythology. Amazons are demi-goddesses because they are related and daughters of Ares the god of War in the Greek Mythology. Amazons’ mother is Otrera, she was the high priestess of Artemis and a mortal, she is the founder of the Amazons and she is the wife and lover and consort with Ares the god of War. She is the mother of Queen Hippolyta. Queen Hippolyta is the mother of Wonder Woman, Princess Diana in DC comics.

  • Spider1982

In common of the Sif and Princess Diana-Wonder Woman is they both have dark hair and blue eyes….physical strength, Sif is never tired if she has the Jarnsaxa Iron Sword this is if she is on earth, if she is in Asgard, her power and strength is eternal and she does not weaken and her strength is forever. Diana can get tired..because she is a demi-goddess. When she away from Paradise Island, she must have the magic belt made by Aphrodite the goddess of love. Without the magic belt, Diana is mortal and has mortal strength.

Can anyone shine light on why she couldn’t be both Sif and Wonder Woman? If it’s an issue of time, I think we all feel that she was underutilized in Thor 2 and clearly her schedule isn’t full of Thor stuff. And with Jane still alive and well and with Thor seemingly having no real interest in Sif, I unfortunately don’t see her role expanding anytime soon. Therefore, there can’t be much of a time issue. If it’s contract, we’ve seen Chris Evans do both. Now, we haven’t seen him go back to Marvel since so maybe WB is signing people to exclusive contracts of some sort. Any insight would be welcome though. Thanks.

Jaimie Alexander is considering jumping ship on the Marvel Cinematic Universe….Marvel?? DC! DC, Jesus!

  • Mick Price

Yeah Bruce Wayne was never that specific about who he was dating. Hot was the only specification.

She looks good for the role, i think she should take it, definitely would get more spotlight and fame as Wonder Woman than Sif in Thor
