‘Fringe’ Star Takes Satanic Turn on ‘American Horror Story’

Lance Reddick, welcome to hell!

Reddick, a veteran of television-culture touchstones like The Wire, Lost and Fringe, is the latest name to join the cast of FX’s American Horror Story: Coven. According to Entertainment Weekly, Reddick will appear in a January episode as Papa Legba, described as a “voodoo Satan.” He’s a man with close ties to Marie Laveau, the voodoo practitioner played by Angela Bassett.

Little else is known about the character, except that he’s “an important figure in the series’ remaining four episodes.” But, really, if you need to know more than “Lance Reddick is playing voodoo Satan,” then perhaps this isn’t the show for you.

American Horror Story: Coven airs Wednesdays at 10 p.m. ET/PT on FX.

Wow. This show is a lot of fun but it really likes to have its way with history and fact. Papa Legba is more akin to Saint Peter in traditional Louisiana voodoo. Calling him “Voodoo Satan” seems more for sensationalist purposes than anything else. LOVE Lance Reddick and I’m sure he’ll play the role well, but sometimes this show just makes me shake my head.
