Marvel’s Next One-Shot is ‘All Hail the King’ (Do Fans Finally Get a Loki Short?)

loki-the dark world

Thanks to an apparent slip-up by the British Board of Film Classification, we have an early look at the special features for the Blu-ray release of Thor: The Dark World, which include an exclusive look at Captain America: The Winter Soldier and, most intriguing, a new “Marvel One-Shot” called “All Hail the King.”

Considering the title, and the ending of The Dark World, speculation naturally leans toward a Loki short, which might go a long way in placating the nearly 50,000 Tom Hiddleston fans who signed an online petition asking Marvel to produce a solo film starring the trickster god.

And, hey, why not? Marvel seems to know what fans want — and what they want is more Loki — going so far as to add last-minute scenes to the Thor sequel to give Hiddleston more screen time. Marvel Studios Co-President Louis D’Esposito, who directs the “One-Shots,” revealed in July that he had tried to develop a Loki one-shot, but it would’ve been too cost-prohibitive (the studio instead shot “Agent Carter”). However, it’s entirely possible the 13-minute short was part of those Thor reshoots.

Following the leak of the special features list, Marvel released a trailer for the Thor: The Dark World Blu-ray, which arrives Feb. 25.

I really see NOTHING here that says it’s a Loki short. If anything, as the article mentions, the reasons for it NOT being a Loki short are more than it being one.

    This is pretty irresponsible reporting.

  • Dalton Munnal

Irresponsible reporting? They didn’t say anything that was true. “Considering the title, and the ending of The Dark World, speculation naturally leans toward a Loki short.” Seems pretty obvious, does it not?

  • DarthTigris

The title makes it sound as if it’s a done deal.

The article states this too: “Marvel Studios Co-President Louis D’Esposito, who directs the “One-Shots,” revealed in July that he had tried to develop a Loki one-shot, but it would’ve been too cost-prohibitive (the studio instead shot “Agent Carter”).”

Good reporting would use that source as evidence that would lean against this being a Loki short. Good reporting would reiterate that Ben Kingsley had mentioned in an interview with the Belfast Telegraph that he’s involved in a secret Marvel project that would likely involved Trevor. Bad reporting is speculating with no proof that this is a Loki short because you know that would bring the website hits.

But hey, never let facts get in the way of a good story, right? :-|

You just enjoy ranting and rambling.

  • Pete Stancheck

why Loki?? thats a short Odin movie, he is the king !

  • Dalton Munnal

You do realize that you’re quoting information from the article to complain about the article lacking information, right? Just think about that for a minute.

  • DarthTigris

I’m not complaining about the lack of information. I’m complaining about ignoring the very information that you’ve included to come to a conclusion.
For the record, people are probably thinking I have something against Loki or don’t want to see a Loki short, and that has nothing to do with it. I came to this article really interested but was disappointed to find it is as speculative as it is. That’s bad reporting, period.

    Did you see Thor 2?

But, yeah. This is almost assuredly the Ben Kingsley thing.

  • Happily LS

You’re right, there’s nothing here that says it’s a Loki short. It says that there’s speculation based on

    a) the title
    b) the ending of Thor 2
    c) the fact that it’s on the Thor 2 Blu-ray
    d) the way people go cuckoo for Loki puffs

Still obviously just speculation, but that’s what the word speculation means.

  • daris

Why so angry? Fans are excited about the possibility of a Loki short. Why ruin it? Doesn’t matter about the reporting.

  • angie

Why would they put that in the Thor extras? It will be a big letdown. Hopefully both actors are involved, somehow.

  • Angie

I don’t get why they chose to spend money on the “Agent Carter” movie, either.

  • http://drewmelbourne.com/ Drew Melbourne

The Marvel One-Shots don’t align with the Blu-ray they appear on. For instance, the last one (for the Iron Man Blu-ray) was Captain America themed.

  • Dalton Munnal

And this changes the point, how exactly? The article title said they’re MIGHT be a Loki short, and then it turned out their wasn’t. I see no false or misleading content here, sir.

  • DarthTigris

This story had no actual facts to support it. The facts supported what the truth ended up being.

Has journalism been so bad that people can’t even recognize it anymore? It amazes and disappoints me to see so many defending this and attacking me …

  • Dalton Munnal

You’re being attacked because you’re attacking harmless speculation that admits to being speculation in the title. My mind is honestly blown every time you fail to see that the neither the article, nor the title, made any false claims about anything.
