‘American Horror Story’ Season 4 to Take Place in 1950

What horrors will American Horror Story explore next? The FX anthology series has already covered a haunted house, an insane asylum and a coven of witches, but the worst horror of them all could reside in 1950.

That’s the year that American Horror Story will take place in during its upcoming fourth season, creator Ryan Murphy tells Entertainment Weekly.

“If you look historically what happened in the year 1950, there’s some more clues in that year,” he teased. “It’s a period piece. We try and do the opposite of what we’ve done before.”

Murphy offered no further clues as to what the new iteration of American Horror Story will center on, except for this: “Jessica Lange has already started practicing her German accent so I’m very excited!”

What took place in 1950 that could require a character with a German accent? It’s the same year that Sen. Joseph McCarthy accused 205 State Department employees of being members of the Communist Party. Could that be the focus of the new American Horror Story season? It’s called “the Red Scare” for a reason!

In the meantime, American Horror Story: Coven wraps up on Jan. 29.

I was a big fan of season 2 when I had cable, but when I switched exclusively to streaming my shows FX refused to stream for most of season 3, and then made it difficult to access the small amount of content they have. FYI FX, this WON’T make people go out in droves to buy the DVD’s. It’s only made up my mind to not only skip out season 4, but also the show in it’s entirety. Get with the times already.
