Will Ninja Turtles Fans Be Happy With These Designs For Michael Bay’s Film?

Note: The photos have been removed at the request of an attorney representing Paramount Pictures.

Following concerns about a leaked early script, a possible alien origin and a shifting release date, new photos from the set of the Michael Bay-produced Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles may actually come as some relief to fans of the franchise. Note the use of “may” and “some.”

The images, from Comic Book Movie, come with little explanation and no verification. However, they reveal some rather robust and detailed scale figures — apparently the final designs — offering a good idea of what the Turtles are expected to look like on screen.  We’re also given a peek at Shredder, who’s looking pretty, um, robust himself.

Directed by Jonathan Liebesman from a script by Josh Appelbaum, Andrew Nemec, Art Marcum, Matt Holloway and John Fusco, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles stars Megan Fox as April O’Neil, Alan Ritchson as Raphael, Jeremy Howard as Donatello, Pete Ploszek as Leonardo, Noel Fisher as Michelangelo, Will Arnett as Vernon Fenwick, Danny Woodburn as Master Splinter, and William Fichtner as Shredder. The film opens Aug. 8.

yes i’m happy, they look excellent.

  • David

Shredder doesn’t look as bad as early descriptions made him out to be.

  • ambaryerno

That’s actually not bad. Though it’s tough to compare to the suits on the original movie, which STILL stand up today.

  • Ozzy Arroyo

why are they wearing samurai garb they are ninjas not samurai

  • DCBlackbird

Ehh.. It’s more like a bunch of trash that coincidentally looks like the traditional samurai garb…. Besides they never really had the ninja look outside of their masks..

  • Drew

You’re joking right? Talk about nitpicking, besides the general idea of what ninjas look like isn’t even close to what ninjas were really like.

  • samuel

I like the idea of them all being dressed a little differently so that’s cool

  • Vlad Olivares

I’m not a big fan of the heavy amount of armor. Otherwise, it’s fine. Especially Shredder; that has got to be the most menacing can-opener I’ve ever seen.

  • Frank

Damn, I want those. They look freaking awesome.

  • victorredman

Shredder looks fine, although I’m a little iffy on the blades that seem to line his cape (!) of all things. That might actually be a cool design gimmick for a comic book or even a cartoon, but I’m not sure how well it’ll come off in live action. Still, it’s a good look, and not exactly a huge departure from previous incarnations. The Turtles look ok… Just okay. I was never overly concerned with the designs though, I am concerned about Michael ‘Explosion’ Bay at the helm…

  • John L. Taylor

Actually, these look really cool. Leo looks awesome, Shredder looks just plain epic. And this from a 1st generation Turtles fan.

  • mel

Michael Bay is producing NOT directing.

THE NOSES! THE LIPS! Why has no one said anything about these affronts! Everything else looks great- so why do they need to be ruined with stupid human noses and human lips!!??!??!

  • cameron

Looks excellent. I love the samurai elements that are put into it….and you guys are joking, right?
You do realize that they live in the sewers…..so please pardon them if they don’t have Iron Man level gear…..

  • kyler416

I might hate Michael Bay, but I’m totally on board with these TMNT designs. Looks F-ing great

  • Convoy

I’ll give it this. I like the look and the Shredder does look menacing. I’ll just have to wait to see what the plot is like.

  • Michael Gordon

Looking forward to it, but trying not to get hopes up to much. Will reserve judgment for the movie. Not sure how I feel about the designs. Shredder looks rather menacing, almost Super Shredder level just more armor. Wonder if I could get him to make some coleslaw for during the movie…

  • Joey Johnson

    so?

  • Christopher

Like it with the exception of the chimpanzee faces. Need to wide those snouts some more.

  • HOLY SHIT

Im lookin forward to this, i mean FUCK YES THEY DIDNT SCREW UP MY BOYS!! I like the update.

  • Alex Hayden

these look much better than i expected.

  • Bryy

    … that’s how turtles look.

  • http://www.living-silver.com Living Silver

With human lips? No, turtles don’t have human lips.

  • Derek

I like everything but the turtle nostrils.

  • Jeremy James

    Yes they do!

  • TheGavGav

I love the Turtle designs, but I’m not sure about Shredder. He looks a little too shiny and clunky.

  • http://www.living-silver.com Living Silver

The Shredder is a ridiculous looking character to begin with. The design’s a little busy, but anyone who finds the original design to be “cool” is sure to find this one “cool” too.

  • Nunyo

Shredder kind of looks like the Predator >.>

  • Kaizokuman

I’ve just been thinking the design of the suit is not American at all. Just wondering how they come up with it.

  • Kaizokuman

Yeah well he produced Megan Fox as April, That’s going to be a hard sell for me. Liking the designs though.

  • Aaron

Nope because Michael Bay is doing it. He just needs to stop.

  • Thedude3445

    Actually looks really cool.

  • Izzst

Cool, I’ll be more happy when we see some footage of the movie.

  • Kenshiroh

Isn’t that what got Megan Fox kicked out of the Transformers movies?

  • Lincoln Paradox

They look ok to me. From what I’ve seen of April O’Neal, she looks kinda skanky, tho…

  • Picaso

Well looking at origin, they’re humaniod turtles, so it only makes sense that they carry features of both. After all, when’s the last turtle you saw with fingers, toes and biceps?

  • Avril111

  • move311

for everyone talking crap about the shredder… he looks like a samuari.. he looks awesome!!

  • Ian

This turtles have lips… What tha…

  • Ian

They will not be “humanoid turtles”, in fact, they will be “aliens”. Thank you Michael Bay for this mess.

  • Banon

In the end, none of this matters. The “how they look” will be the last thing wrong with this movie. Keep in mind this is from the guy who does the Transformers movies. This version of the turtles will suck, because garbage is all Michael Bay is capable of making.

  • http://www.living-silver.com Living Silver

Not anymore. The studio heard the fan uproar and back down on the alien thing. They’re mutant turtles again.

  • http://www.living-silver.com Living Silver

Just because it makes sense doesn’t mean it’s a good idea to do it. it looks ugly (these guys are supposed to lead a film and sell merch, remember?) and it takes away from the iconic ‘turtle’ look that is so famous. Those big, round, cartoon noses are part of what made the turtles famous.

  • http://www.living-silver.com Living Silver

I am hereby officially naming Megan Fox’s version April O’Kneel

  • Paul

    looks good
