‘Escape From New York’ Reboot Inspired By ‘Arkham City’

What do Batman and Snake Plissken have in common? Apparently, you can thank the Caped Crusader’s Arkham video game series for the upcoming Escape From New York reboot, according to producer Joel Silver.

“There was a video game that came out a few years ago called Arkham City, which shows how when Gotham became this kind of walled prison and how it became a walled prison,” he told Collider of plans for a new Escape trilogy. “And they never deal with that in the story of Escape from New York, so part of our idea was to kind of see how the city became this walled prison and how the Snake Plissken character was a hero and how he became not looked at as a hero.”

“And then, in the middle of the story, would be the movie that we, you know, previously saw about the President’s daughter goes down, he has to go in and get her,” he continued. “And then, you know, they did a sequel, Escape from LA, but I would like to then kind of find a way to have New York go back to a place that we’d like to see what it is today.”

Silver said the script is not finished, and that he and his fellow producers are “just starting” to move the new series into position.

Fuck can’t they just leave well enough alone? Just give Carpenter the money to make Escape from Earth and don’t even JOKE about recasting Snake Plissken!

    I concur

  • Rocky

Shia LaBeauf gonna play Snake haha.

  • SmokingFrog77

Well if anyone is destined to bring about the apocalypse by bringing Shia la Beef out of retirement, it’d be Joel Fucking Silver.

The business with the Presidents’ daughter was in the sequel not the original. Has Mr. Silver even seen Escape From New York?

  • Butthacker

I read those quotes far too many times trying to make sense of what was said, then saw his gaff about the POTUS’ daughter. I’m not sure this is someone I want involved in any remake.

If they got Jason Statham to play Snake, it would be great.

  • clepto

yes but don’t you hate that the studios always go against what everyone else sees as the best idea…

  • SmokingFrog77

Of course not, he wouldn’t want to dilute his vision!

  • SmokingFrog77

That’s actually the best suggestion I’ve heard for re-casting. Not sure about Statham’s ability to do an American accent though… I’m not being jingoistic but Snake Plissken is pretty quintessentially American.

In the case of reboots, pretty much. In this case, what everyone else sees as the best idea is DON’T FUCKING DO IT!
