Jackman: Wolverine Recasting is ‘Inevitable’

It isn’t just likely that someone else will play Wolverine in the near future — it’s an inevitability, says Hugh Jackman.

“Look, that’s inevitable, man,” the Australian actor told IGN while on the set of X-Men: Days of Future Past, Jackman’s seventh at-bat as Wolverine. “Anyone who thinks they’re indispensable in this business is fooling themselves. But I feel unbelievably blessed to have this part. I never thought in a million years I’d get to play him seven times. Every day I walk on the set with the claws and the hair, I thank my lucky stars. I don’t take any of it for granted.”

“To think that in a second version we’d have this cast and this director, and you guys don’t know the script, but I would say probably the best script of all of them, is pretty amazing,” he continued. “I think that’s why I’m still here. I’m sure by the way, that it won’t always be my decision to always be here. At some point, someone will close the door on me.”

For now, Jackman is the man with the claws, and will continue to be that man until announced otherwise. We’ll see him dig into the Sentinel scene when Days of Future Past arrives on May 23.

Not without doing Old Man Logan.

  • Edstone1

I agree. Sorry mr.Jackman, you’re out when when WE say you’re out:)

  • Jimmy Russell

Hopefully they will follow the example of the new fantastic four movie and cast wolverine as an african american to better reflect today’s post-obama multicultural and diverse america.

  • Dalton Munnal

Almost didn’t read the name before responding to this one. That was close.

  • uatu13

That’s not diverse enough though. Wolverine would have to be obese, handi-capped, transgendered, inuit lesbian with tourretes…or you’re a racist!

  • Darth Weevil

Just as long as (s)he’s Canadian.

  • uatu13

You nationalistic bastard! No, obese, handi-capped, transgendered, inuit lesbian, tourretes Wolverine is from Sudan so we also get to be preached to about the struggles of Africans.

  • Martin Kroll

they have been doing this since a long time now what’s the buzz it’s a frikkin movie they did this to nummerous figures in the MU it ain’t new and not that bad either it’s just business their buyers are changing and so do they the customer is king and a more diverse group of customers makes a more diverse group of characters

  • IdoNtCaRe

Hope next Wolverine is short enough.Jackman is way too tall.

  • IdoNtCaRe

Hopefully not.The new FF movie’s gonna suck.

  • shayneo

Honestly I couldnt imagine anyone else doing it. He’s been wolverine so long now, its hard to imagine anyone else being convincing in the role.

Hugh Jackman makes a great Wolverine, I’m more just ready for the plug to be pulled on this entire iteration of the franchise. Batman/Spider-Man in, and start all over again in a few years.

  • Jackraow21

Of course it’s inevitable. But I wouldn’t count on it anytime soon. He’s in his mid forties. If Liam Neeson can keep making action flicks in his 60s I’d say Jackman’s got another decade in him. That’s like four films. More if he’s doing spinoffs like Wolverine solo films and X-Force.

  • PietroMaximoff

watching old X-Men movies, i realize how old he looks now in comparison.
i really loved him as a younger Wolverine.. now it’s getting ridiculous.. IMHO
sorry! i would love a recasting as soon as possible.

  • Alabama_Man

I hear Dougray Scott is looking for work. But fortunately for Jackman, the technology is there to allow him to play in the role as long as he wants to. I’m interested to see if the new movie can undo all the dumb decisions from X-Men 3.

  • Ninjajp

    butthurt much? LOL

  • DarthTigris

That won’t happen. Let’s hope it doesn’t happen. What a pointless, derivative story …

  • Jonamatic

I like how much people have taken to Jackman, who did a fantastic job of doing terrible in a terrible movie series.

  • Chuck777

Rumor has it, Days of Future Past will retcon the entire franchise.

  • Sakasa

Well I know some of you are saying duh, but when Robert Downey Jr. was considering being out that could not be allowed! It’s very important for the viewership to let go of the visual person to keep the immortal characters going. The original batmans were a shinning example of that (besides them offing a villian for good each time). Sure it may be a not award praised article but it is an important topic all the same.

  • jnnx

Ummmm, I think that’s code for, “I’m done playing this character, I’m ready to move on, and do something else with my life.”

  • Planet-arium

The only villain Nolan ever clipped was Bane?

  • Sakasa

Al Ghul in the truck with the bomb as well as her father in the train, in the original Batman joker, and in Batman forever two faced dent.
