WC14: ‘Revolution’ Showrunner Surprises Fans With ‘Farscape’ Movie Update

Farscape

While participating on a panel devoted to showrunners at WonderCon Anaheim Saturday, Rockne S. O’Bannon (Revolution) provided an update on the movie version of one of his most beloved, cancelled shows: Farscape.

“We are, in fact, in the script stage of a Farscape feature,” O’Bannon announced to a packed house that couldn’t be more excited.

This isn’t the first time news of the project broke to fans. In February, Sydney-based writer Justin Monjo let the cat out of the bag to If.com.au, revealing plot details surrounding the film. It is rumored to follow the son of series’ mainstays John and Aeryn.

“[We’re] still in early, early stages,” O’Bannon cautioned fans. He didn’t hesitate however to praise Brian Henson’s efforts in making the project come to life.

“He was like a dog with a bone,” O’Bannon said. “He would not give up on it.”

Farscape ran from 1999 to 2003 on Syfy. In 2004, Farscape: The Peacekeeper Wars tied up loose threads for fans left unsatisfied by the series’ finale.

Revolution, O’Bannon’s current series, airs Wednesdays at 8 p.m. on NBC.

Revolution actually airs on Wednesdays at 8.

I can’t imagine where they’d get the funding for this movie. Channel 9 in Australia co-funded the series, and they wouldn’t even air it themselves.
They should Kickstart it. I’d fund it!

Never got into Farscape, just didn’t do anything for me. But i did enjoy Ben Browder and Claudia Black in ‘Stargate SG-1′, so for the sake of their careers i hope this movie gets traction.

I’m a huge fan of the Farscape series and hope that this actually gets into our screens. O’Bannon, his writers, & Henson’s creature shop all created a fantastic world filled with strange creatures (as aliens ought to be). Definitely worth catching it on video or reruns.

If they crowdfund it, I’d toss in a few bucks. I strongly doubt that crowdfunding could provide enough to do it right, but it could pay for extra sets and a lot of details. Want a flashback with Talyn and Crais? Crowdfund that. The sets and props have long been broken down, sold or otherwise disbursed, so the more the crowd funds, the more we get. It would still need studio funding for the core, but if we fans show that we’ll pay for the sets, that ought to get the attention of the studio.

The show was inconsistent and uneven in its quality. It was this hit or miss feel that caused me to stop watching. The only reason I watched as long as I did was the chemistry between Black and Browder. But even that became irritating.

interesting since one the movie the peace keeper war kind of either killed off characters or finaly like rigel sent them home to their own planet. but any new farscape is good even if its the early stages guess this means the rumors of the series returning as an online thing did not take.

When it went to “monster of the week”, the series wasn’t that good. When the series went for the multi-part story arc, that’s when things were very interesting.
