Vaughan & Chiang's "Paper Girls" Builds a Familiar Yet Disconcerting World
While most networks are looking ahead to the fall season, CBS is also building up what it hopes will be a summer hit: Extant, the 13-episode sci-fi drama starring Halle Berry.
Produced by Steven Spielberg, Amblin Entertainment and CBS Television Studios, the futuristic thriller features the Oscar winner as an astronaut who returns home after a year-long solo space mission with a surprise: She’s pregnant. Back on Earth she has to figure out how to tell her husband and what this might mean for her job, the government and their robot son.
CBS announced the limited-run series in August after finding success with Under the Dome, also produced by Amblin. The network debuted a clip last month and has already begun running promos during prime time, but this is the first extended look at the series.
Extant, which also stars Goran Visnjic, Pierce Gagnon and Camryn Manheim, debuts July 9.
