Fox Wants to Resurrect ‘Alien Nation’

Fox hopes to land a successful invasion with a reboot of Alien Nation on the big screen, The Tracking Board reports.

Alien Nation kicked off with a 1988 film starring James Caan, Mandy Patinkin and Terence Stamp. The movie takes place in a world where aliens called Newcomers have started assimilating into society. Caan and Patinkin play a pair of cops — one human, the other alien — who team up to solve a murder.

The film proved popular enough to launch a spinoff television series that aired for one season, followed by a variety of TV movies, comics and novels. In 2009, Syfy had plans to resurrect the concept, but it didn’t get past the pilot stage.

interesting fox would want to revisit alien nation given their track record with sci fi shows. plus if they do manage to bring it back will the fans return after so long?

If they do this I’d go with a complete reimagining of the Newcomers. So they don’t look anything like they did in the original film. Because frankly they looked kind of silly even back in 88.

The movie was okay, but the series was God awful. They should let this one rest.
