"Tomb Raider" Finds Its Lara Croft in "Ex Machina's" Alicia Vikander

Andy and Lana Wachowski seem to have found a good balance between the blockbuster sci-fi entertainment of The Matrix and the kind of emotional storytelling on display in Cloud Atlas with their next film. Jupiter Ascending features a young woman played by Mila Kunis discovering she’s part of something much larger than herself (or even Earth) as the mysterious Caine, played by Channing Tatum, switches from hunting her down to protecting her.
As you can see, the French trailer features much of the same footage we saw in March, but it does offer a few new looks here and there at the film, which also stars Sean Bean, Eddie Redmayne and Douglas Booth.
Here’s the official synopsis for Jupiter Ascending, which opens July 18:
From the streets of Chicago to the far-flung galaxies whirling through space, “Jupiter Ascending” tells the story of Jupiter Jones (Mila Kunis), who was born under a night sky, with signs predicting she was destined for great things. Now grown, Jupiter dreams of the stars but wakes up to the cold reality of a job cleaning other people’s houses and an endless run of bad breaks. Only when Caine (Channing Tatum), a genetically engineered ex-military hunter, arrives on Earth to track her down does Jupiter begin to glimpse the fate that has been waiting for her all along—her genetic signature marks her as next in line for an extraordinary inheritance that could alter the balance of the cosmos.
