Dwayne Johnson Gets Epic in Latest ‘Hercules’ Trailer

From the looks of this latest trailer, Brett Ratner’s Hercules has more epic set pieces than you can shake a giant club at: In just two and a half minutes we see Dwayne Johnson face off against a variety of monsters and invading armies.

This version of the Greek mythological hero picks up after the legendary labors, with Hercules traveling around Greece with five companions, hiring themselves out as mercenaries. After taking a job from the king of Thrace to help defend against an invading warlord, however, Hercules must remember the hero he was.

Based on Radical Publishing’s comic Hercules: The Thracian Wars by Steve Moore and Admira Wijaya, the film also stars Ian McShane, Irina Shayk, Rufus Sewell, Joseph Fiennes, Peter Mullan, Rebecca Ferguson, Ingrid Bolso Berdal, Aksel Hennie and Reece Ritchie.

Hercules debuts July 25.

Well, I bet this is the X-Men: Last Stand of Greek Mythology. Zeus and Poseidon get killed half way through, and then Hercules is asked to become the head of the gods. He then makes himself an adamantium skeleton to fight Achilles in Troy.

This looks really good to me.

This is gonna be epic. I loved the fact that they brought back the ensemble hero adventure that made the original “Conan” & 80′s fantasy movies fun (a powerful warrior & his band of misfits saving the day) while keeping to the Hercules mythos (the Nemian Lion, Cerebus, & the Hydra -naming those I saw in the trailer). Not sure about the ‘army of Hades’ angle but the action sequences were appropriately epic & I love the tongue-in-cheek humor injected by Rufus Sewell & Ian McShane’s characters.

Hopefully this will be Ratner’s redemption (for the hollow spectacle that was “X-Men: Last Stand”) much like “X-Men: Days of Future Past” was for Bryan Singer (who in my mind made up for “Superman Returns” & leaving the X-franchise).
