Sean Astin Says He and Corey Feldman Are Up For ‘Goonies’ Sequel

Like a lot of the film’s fans, Sean Astin wants more Goonies in his life.

E! caught up with the actor and asked about recent comments by Goonies director Richard Donner that he’s working on a script for a sequel, and is hoping to get the original gang back together.

“My first thought when Dick said he was doing that was like, ‘All right, maybe this time it’s true!’ I hope it’s true,” Astin said. “I certainly like the idea of doing it. I don’t know if I’d be in it or not. If they really wanted us to be in it, I’m sure there would be some way to work it out.”

Astin said his co-star Corey Feldman is also excited about the project. “We talk a lot,” he said. “Corey and I are buddies. Oh, he’s fired up. He’s ready to go.”

The actor also commented on the rumored story that reportedly finds the children of the original Goonies going on their own adventure. “I think that’s what they want to do,” he said. “I think they want to focus primarily on the kids. I think the audience may be split on that, so they’re trying to figure it out.”

The should film 2 sequels at the same time.
Goonies 2a – Starts and Ends at the same places as the sister movie, but follows the Original Cast.
Goonies 2b – Starts and ends at the same places as the sister movie, but follows the new cast.

I see what they mean here. I mean Goonies was an 80’s classic, and is so different to how movies are made today. It’s going to be tricky to make a film for fans of the original, yet modern kids may hate. So you gotta think is it worth making? As it could destroy the memory of the original.

A good idea for the story would be to set it up similar to the 1st. They’re poor, they need money to save their house. Maybe have it start with the original gang not having seen each other in a few years, and something happens that brings them together.

Maybe have the parents all spaced apart, not liking each other as much. You could even set the kids up as not being friends, and once their adventure ends they realise they’re the new Goonies gang. Could even have one of the Fratellies in the mix bent on revenge on the original gang…

As I read my comment back it sounds so cheesy or boring but I’m sure Donner and company will think of something. If it’s meant to be it will turn out fiine
