Will Batman Get a Solo Movie in 2019?

After a wildly successful trilogy directed by Christopher Nolan, the Dark Knight will return to the big screen in 2016 with Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, followed by Justice League. But what’s planned for Batman — and the new actor behind the mask, Ben Affleck — after that?

According to Latino Review‘s sources, he’ll get another solo film in 2019. That might seem like a long way off, but it fits in with the purported Warner Bros./DC Comics movie revealed last week: Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (May 2016); Shazam (July 2016); The Sandman (Christmas 2016); Justice League (May 2017); Wonder Woman (July 2017); a Flash and Green Lantern team-up (Christmas 2017); and Man of Steel 2 (May 2018).

As you can see, a new Batman film, supposedly titled The Batman, could fit in quite well. Beyond the scheduling, the next big question is, who will direct the film? Affleck is an acclaimed director, but pulling double-duty on a project of this magnitude might be difficult.

Actually, Affleck doesn’t even have an Oscar nomination as a director, so it’s either poor/non-existent research or intentionally misleading to label him an “Oscar-winning director”.

  • Ben

Yes and no. He DID win an Oscar, and he did get nominated as a director. He IS a Director who won an Oscar, though not for directing. Misleading, but not incorrect.

Can’t we have a Batman Family movie for once, rather than ust the Dark Knight on his lonesome? Given his age it would be crazy to imagine him without a Robin, Nightwing, Batgirl and the like.

Can we wait to see how the next DC movie goes, and if they mess it up or not, before they start hyping all this other stuff!

  • todd

Marvel didn’t wait to see how their early movies went, Disney announced 3 new Star Wars sequels so this isn’t really any different.

You make it sound like Batman movie won’t make money.

  • dannymalt

True it will make money. I just thought Man of Steel sucked, so I don’t like how Warner Bros and DC are acting like they have their shit together like the Marvel movie franchises, when they are not even close.
