First Look at Ridley Scott’s ‘Exodus’

Entertainment Weekly has unveiled the first look at Christian Bale, Sigourney Weaver, Ben Kingsley and Joel Edgerton in Exodus: Gods and Kings, director Ridley Scott’s upcoming biblical epic.

Bale stars as Moses, the prophet who stands up to Ramses (an almost-unrecognizable Edgerton) and leads 600,000 slaves out of Egypt, while Weaver plays the pharaoh’s mother Tuya.

“He’s one of the most fascinating characters that I’ve ever studied,” Bale says of Moses. “I think Achilles is described as the most passionate man alive but I think Moses would give him a very good run for his money.”

The film, which also stars John Turturro and Aaron Paul, opens Dec. 12.

The problem with this kind of movie is that it may well reinforce the belief that Moses actually existed. He did not – he was a mythical character, just as it is a myth that the Jews were ever slaves in Egypt. These kind of things are not as harmless as they should be in a world wracked by nationalism and religious division.
