Syfy Orders ‘The Magicians’ Pilot

magiciansSyfy has greenlit a pilot for The Magicians, an adaptation of the bestselling fantasy novels by Lev Grossman.

Sometimes described as “Harry Potter with sex and drugs,” The Magicians follows Quentin Coldwater and his classmates at Brakebills, an elite college of magic in upstate New York, who discover that a Narnia-like world from a series of children’s books is all too real. The first book was released in 2009, followed by the sequel The Magician King in 2011; the third novel in the trilogy, The Magician’s Land, arrives Aug. 5.

Fox in 2011 acquired a TV adaptation of The Magicians, produced by Michael London (Milk) and penned by X-Men: First Class and Thor co-writers Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz. However, that version didn’t go forward.

London is producing the Syfy version with Janice Williams (All Good Girls). John McNamara (Prime Suspect) and Sera Gamble (Supernatural) wrote the pilot script.

Sera Gamble wrote the pilot script? The same Sera Gamble who almost killed Supernatural? I guess that’ll be a pass for me. Plus even if it does do well, SyFy will cancel it for more Reality Crap
