Axel-In-Charge: Facing the 'Divided' Marvel NOW! Future
Lionsgate and Saban Brands have assembled the creative team for their big-screen reboot of the Power Rangers franchise.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, X-Men: First Class screenwriters Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz will pen the script, with Roberto Orci (Transformers, Star Trek) joining as executive producer. Orci will work with the writers to develop the story.
Announced in May, the project sets out to “re-envision the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, a group of high school kids who are infused with unique and cool super powers but must harness and use those powers as a team if they have any hope of saving the world.”
Based on footage from the Japanese superhero team series Super Sentai, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers debuted in 1993, helping to launch the Fox Kids programming block — and a multimedia franchise (with about 18 television incarnations and two theatrical films). The newest Power Rangers series, Power Rangers Dino Charge, is planned for 2015, marking the franchise’s 22nd year on the air.
