‘Power Rangers’ Reboot Morphs Up 2016 Release Date

In two years, it’ll be morphin’ time.

The Hollywood Reporter has news that Lionsgate’s planned Power Rangers reboot has scored a release date: July 22, 2016. That gives you slightly less than two years to emotionally prepare for new versions of the classic characters popularized in the 1990s — although producer Roberto Orci promises he and co-writers Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz’s take on Power Rangers won’t ruin the franchise.

“We’re not just a leave it behind reboot,” Orci said in July. “[Haim] Saban cares very much about that. This is something that he created. I had to go to his house, personally, to tell him, ‘Listen, I’m your man. Miller and Stenz, these are your guys. I promise you I won’t ruin your franchise.’ And he said, ‘It’s very important to me, because kids around the world know what the Power Rangers are. So you can’t just come in here and walk all over it. It better be consistent with what I’ve been doing.’ And I said, ‘Yes sir!’”

No director or casting announcements have been made.

“I won’t ruin Power Rangers” says the guy that ruined both Transformers and Star Trek

It’s teenagers fighting a moon wizard with a giant robot. You have to go out of your way to screw that up.

New Star Trek movies were good. And first Transformers was good at least.

    No.

He didn’t ruin Star Trek. He just wrote a sloppy script. JJ Abrams was able to take shit, and make it into a pretty damn high quality blockbuster. And the first TF’s movie was atleast good in that it actually had a plot about a boy and his car. But yes everything else he’s touched has been shit.

Here’s one thing we can garuantee, this movie will be using the Mighty Morphin template. As in the Zyuranger template. The DinoRangers. The first season stuff. Why? because it’s the most profitable. Expect the Dinozords, expect Alpha, Zordon, etc. The big question is how is Orci going to pull this off without “Hurting” continuity of the series as it is now? I could care less about that said continuity since I’ve hardly seen an episode in 16 years, and I’d wonder why Saban would either since he has the chance to have his bady get mass appeal again. Face it Power Rangers, although still profitable, hasn’t been huge in 20 years. No doubt Orci will fuck it up.

Orci has become a red flag for me. He is like the Michael Bay of writers, when you want to make a blockbuster that will make a shit load of money but you don’t care about the quality of the movie, then you get Orci.
