‘Age of Ultron’ is ‘More Epic’ and ‘Devious’ Than ‘Avengers,’ Joss Whedon Teases

The Age of Ultron will soon be upon us, and Clint Barton is armoring up accordingly.

Empire has a high-res look at Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye in Avengers: Age of Ultron, depicting the eagle-eyed archer’s new costume. The big news: sleeves! It’s much more of a superhero uniform than what Hawkeye wore in his first Avengers tour of duty, but alas, still no mask.

In the same feature, director Joss Whedon gives new details about what to expect from his follow-up to The Avengers, and what he has planned for the titular robot menace. “It’s more epic and in other ways it’s more noirish and suspect and devious and specific,” he said. “Ultron, he’s got a touch of the apocalypse in him.”

Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige adds, “Ultron was the villain Joss wanted, from midway through production on the first film, to have serious repercussions for the Avengers.”

Those repercussions will manifest when Age of Ultron storms into theaters on May 1, 2015.

It’s going to have a Empire Strikes Back style melancholy ending with Robert Downey Junior’s beloved Iron Man dying.
He may or may not come back to help save the day one final time in Avengers 3 however.

He is actually tied to a contract to appear in two movies after Iron Man 3. So….Avengers 2/3!?

Yeah, RDJ’s under contract for 2 more Avengers films so he’ll be there for the showdown with Thanos. Though it doesn’t mean he still can’t be critically injured after Avengers: AoU.

Though if I were writing the ending of AoU, Iron Man will sacrifice himself to save the day by overloading his arc reactor while hanging onto Ultron & preventing his consciousness from escaping. The Avengers mourn his loss as the movie fades to black. Then, in the mid-credit bonus scene, we’ll have Tony waking up in his powerless armor adrift in deep space. After a one-liner befitting Stark, he begins to lose consciousness when a beam of light grabs hold of him & pulls him into a space craft. The camera pans to its side to reveal “Milano”. ;)

Well that’s nice….too bad everyone’s gonna freakin’ die in Avengers 3.
