SDCC: "Spider-Man: Homecoming" Confirms Flash Thompson
“Big Hero 6″ was on track this weekend to inch past “Beauty and the Beast’s” $218.9 million to become Walt Disney Animation Studios’ third-highest grossing domestic release of all time, behind “Frozen” and “The Lion King.”
Inspired by the Marvel Comics series of the same name, the Oscar-nominated superhero action comedy has earned more than $520 million worldwide since its November premiere.
Variety marks the box-office milestone in a brief article that points out that, despite the film’s success, Disney hasn’t rushed a sequel into development. In fact, co-director Chris Williams says he and his collaborator Don Hall haven’t had time to discuss a possible follow-up.
“If it’s not a great story, it won’t be a great movie,” Williams said. “The crew deserves a great story. And we have expectations from the audience, who grew up with Disney animation. They deserve a great story too.”
