‘DuckTales’ Reboot Coming in 2017 From Disney XD

Disney XD will be returning to Duckburg in 2017 with a revival of “DuckTales,” the beloved animated adventure starring Uncle Scrooge and his three grandnephews Huey, Dewey and Louie.

The original series aired from 1987 to 1990 on weekday afternoons, and inspired the 1990 theatrical release “DuckTales the Movie: Treasure of the Lost Lamp.”

“‘DuckTales’ has a special place in Disney’s TV animation history,” Marc Buhaj Disney XD’s senior vice president, programming and general manager said in a statement. “It drew its inspiration from Disney Legend Carl Barks’ comic books and through its storytelling and artistic showmanship, set an enduring standard for animated entertainment that connects with both kids and adults. Our new series will bring that same energy and adventurous spirit to a new generation.”

In addition to Scrooge, Huey, Dewey and Louie, and Donald, the new “DuckTales” will also feature such familiar characters as Launchpad McQuack, Gyro Gearloose, Duckworth, Flintheart Glomgold, Magica DeSpell & Poe, Ma Beagle and the Beagle Boys (Burger Beagle, Bouncer Beagle), Mrs. Beakley and Webbigail “Webby” Vanderquack.

Its hard to believe its been that long since this was on.

They certainly did a great job last time and hope they continue to draw on Carl Barks classics. Hopefully they’ll find a voice actor that does a great Scrooge like last time.

  • Derek Metaltron

They better keep the theme tune intact or there will be blood from the fans, I’m sure. This was one of my earliest childhood shows so I hope it does well and stays true to the heart of the original show.

Can the recapture the magic again? So many of the voice actors are so much older now, though many of them did the voices for the Duck Tales Remastered game and sounded incredible.

  • Sebastian Sandberg

So if it airs in 2017, 30 years after the original show premiered, it’s sort of an anniversary project…

Well, that certainly deserves the Breaking News label.

With the Rescue Rangers having a live-action/ CGI movie in development, Darkwing Duck getting another shot at an ongoing comic book…

The Disney Afternoon is clawing it’s way back.

But I want to know more! Animation style, format, what voice actors are on board…

I hope this does well enough for Disney to consider dipping into more late 80s and 90s properties.

Is this reboot a movie or a new tv show?

  • Noham

New TV Show. In CGI, certainly…

  • JB

If it’s in CGI, I’m out…. Though perhaps I shouldn’t be so hasty as the new Ninja Turtle cartoon far surpassed my expectations going in.

  • Ronin0948

This news has memories of their movie going through my head right now.

Better without GizmoDuck. Went downhill after that.
