Yes, ‘Beetlejuice 2′ is Really Happening, Winona Ryder Confirms

After years of being “sworn to secrecy,” Winona Ryder is finally ready to confirm she’ll reprise her role as Lydia Deetz in the long-discussed sequel to “Beetlejuice.” But only because director Tim Burton publicly confirmed it first.

“It was very hush-hush, top-secret, ‘Oh, I don’t know, it may happen,'” she said last night on “Late Night with Seth Meyers,” “then he was doing some press for ‘Big Eyes,’ and he did an on-camera interview, and he said, ‘Oh, yeah, we’re doing it, and Winona’s going to be in it.’ […] But I really don’t know much more than anybody else.”

Screenwriter Seth Grahame-Smith revealed in January that he and Burton had “landed on the right approach” to the follow-up to the 1988 film, one that “excited” star Michael Keaton.

The plan, apparently, is for production to begin on “Beetlejuice 2″ late this year, after Burton wraps his adaptation of “Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children.”

should be interesting to see how winona reprises lydia since odds are she will have grown up or maybe married to beetle juice. though will believe the thing is happening when enough is made for a trailer or michel keaton is caught in beetle juice makeup again.

How else can Lydia be brought into the crazy world of the dead again? Obvious, she dies!

“odds are she will have grown up or maybe married to beetle juice”

Lydia would have grown up OR married to beetlejuice? Why does it have to be one or the other?

Michael Keaton wont have to wear as much makeup this time around *heh*

This is because, however unconventional though expected (this IS Tim Burton remember, and he borderline thrives on pairing the living and “recently deceased” [besides the obvious near-wedding in _Beetlejuice_, it’s found in _Sleepy Hollow_ when the Headless Horseman retrieves his missing cranium and viciously makes out with Lady Van Tassel – who’s responsible for the Hessian’s merciless killings of the locals, including her nosy daughter Katrina, who uncovers that her mother is a witch who summoned the specter back from beyond the grave, before the Hessian does a semi-face turn after recovering his vamp-like Christopher Walken dome and lops off Lady Van Tassel’s own head after kissing her as punishment for disturbing his rest by robbing his unmarked plot and keeping his head in her possession as a form of blackmail, so he’d be her slave until he was made whole again – and there’s the strange love triangle found in _Corpse Bride_, which the remade _Frankenweenie_ was said to be a prequel to], not to mention the B-man himself being a perverted con artist as far as his character description goes, as well as the 1989 cartoon adaptation making their characters chummy to the point that the aged-down-for-kid-viewers Lydia Deetz was shown at times with her wedding ring on her finger, Betel would do anything – even work and clean himself up, since we know “The Ghost With The Most” is a filthy, unemployed loafer – if it meant the little spitfire was happy and he was shown to have a genuine Lydia shrine inside his mind that was looked after by what remained of his will power when the two had a brief spat that was quickly reconciled, the animators and writers purposely included irrefutable moments between the two that go definitely beyond mere platonic friendship [for one example, they’re parents to abnormal were-car Doomie, the name for which is meant to be “Dragster of Doom” shortened, but sounds like the obvious as an open request for sex, since Doomie and…well.. “Do Me” are phonetically similar] and, during breaks, they actually drew Rule 34 of the preteen perky goth and her randy poltergeist “best friend” during Lydia’s menstrual cycle that wound up being the reason for Beetlejuice’s red finger tips [beyond the fact that all blood rushes to your extremities when you’re dead] canonically, and even Lydia’s self-professed artist stepmother Delia is respected by the Neither World for her absurd art and remains blissfully unaware of the clear-cut fact that presumed family jack-of-all-trades “Mr. Beetleman”, Lydia’s odd female friend “Betty” [although Lydia has two living fellow outcast friends in the long-in-the-legs and buck-toothed Bertha and Prudence, the resident shy nerd with a hidden wild child side, neither of them are the wiser that “Betty” isn’t who she claims], and distant [and probably several times removed] “Cousin BJ” are all forms undertaken by the same horny sleazebag who unsuccessfully attempted to marry her underage goth daughter with a budding photographic career at the climax [heh] of the source 1988 film), it’s what fans want (like how _Labyrinth_ paired up the illustrated versions of Jennifer Connolley’s Sarah and Glam Rock legend David Bowie’s goblin king Jareth in the graphic novel version of the planned sequel that never saw the light of day due to being in development hell forever and finally being canned following David Bowie’s passing or how the actual Teen Titans comics made back then had the _Judas Contract_ plot squarely centered around earth-bending sociopath Terra [real name: Tara Markov] as a moll for the superhero team’s mercenary-for-hire adversary Deathstroke the Terminator [real name: Slade Wilson], and during the entire betrayal, Terra was sleeping with Deathstroke on the side, despite she knowingly being only 14-16 and he being old enough to be either her father or even a grandfather at over age 50). Ironic, as all those pairs – BJ/Lyds, Jareth/Sarah, and Slade/Tara – embody the “Stranger Danger” warning parents gave their children on account of real-life pedophile cases running rampant at the time, yet for at least two of them, it was the girl who initiated the eventual joining together between themselves and their massively older…um…partner (that’s right kids, in the graphic novel sequel to _Labyrinth_ and during the _Judas Contract_ arc, Sarah had sex with Jareth and Tara had sex with Slade, with that last one being glaringly obvious to the point that we didn’t even need to see those scans of a shirtless Deathstroke in his lair next to Terra in a see-through nightie in one panel and a skimpy towel tastefully covering her lady parts and a loose fitting shirt clinging tightly to her chest in another) and that may actually come to fruition in the _Beetlejuice_ sequel, minus actual screen depiction of the whole necrophiliac consummation, since Lydia would now be in her 40’s, well past legal age and thus, old enough to make her own choices, however unsettling and taboo they might appear to everyday, normal people adjusted to conventional, average societal expectations.

As unconventionally taboo as it is, most fans want both. Thank the cartoon for that.
