Guillermo del Toro is set to develop and potentially direct an adaptation of the children’s book series “Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark” for CBS Films.
Written by Alvin Schwartz and illustrated by Stephen Gammell, “Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark” is a horror anthology that draws heavily from folklore and urban legends. The 1981 first volume was followed by sequels in 1984 and 1991.
Confirming his involvement in the adaptation, del Toro tweeted that “Scary Stories” is “a favorite book of youth.”
John August (“Frankenweenie,” “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory”) was hired in late 2014 to write the script.
