JJ Abrams Has Advice For Actors Hoping to Play Young Han Solo

More than 2,500 actors — seemingly every Hollywood male between the ages of 16 and 34 — reportedly made pitches to play young Han Solo in the upcoming “Star Wars” spinoff, a number that’s since been slashed to only a dozen. That’s 12 contenders eager for anything that might give them an edge on the competition.

Luckily for them, “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” director J.J. Abrams has come through with some advice.

“Watch ‘Raiders of the Lost Ark,’ he told Variety. “It’ll all be right there.”

While “A New Hope” might seem like the obvious suggestion for anyone wishing to wear Han Solo’s jacket, “Raiders” is very much Harrison Ford’s film, where his mannerisms and swagger are front and center. That’s perfect, as long as Lucasfilm and directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller are seeking an actor to imitate Ford.

Miles Teller, Dave Franco, Logan Lerman and Ansel Elgort are said to be among the names on Lucasfilm’s shortlist. Variety previously suggested that whoever is cast in the role could make an appearance in December’s “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story,” which is set just before the event of “A New Hope.”

Written by Lawrence Kasdan and Jon Kasdan, the untitled movie opens May 25, 2018.

Anthony Ingruber should do it, hands down!

Agree- he was great as a young Ford in Age of Adaline

I so, so don’t see the need for this film. And Han Solo is without a doubt my favourite character in the franchise.

I heard the top finalist for the role is Miles Teller. That is the biggest mistake Disney will ever make with the franchise. Anthony Ingruber is the only guy who can play play Solo. If it’s not him, fans will riot!

    Amen.

This December, get ready to time-travel to just before Episode4 for some reason. It’s going to be very weird seeing the release of a StarWars movie telling the side-story of RogueOne instead of keeping the ball rolling in the post-TFA timeline.

Miles Teller? Dude doesnt fit Han Solo at all. Gotta agree with the Anthony Ingruber folks….but he is pretty weak in the acting department and would need to sharpen up.

lol No kidding JJ. Did you think that up all by yourself?

advice on playing Han – if someone points a gun at you, says they are going to kill you and refuses to be talked down – do not wait for them to murder you before you defend yourself
