Matthew Perry Will Miss NBC’s ‘Friends’ Reunion

Could this be any more of a bummer?

After NBC announced that all six “Friends” cast members would take part in a special honoring acclaimed sitcom director James Burrows, USA Today has reported that only five will actually be in attendance.

Matthew Perry’s spokeswoman Lisa Kasteler stated that the actor will miss the reunion because “he is in London in rehearsals for his play, ‘The End of Longing.'” Kasteler then stated that NBC executives knew this when they made their announcement at the winter TCAs on Wednesday. “Matthew may tape something for the tribute,” added Kasteler. “In other words, this is not the reunion people have been hoping for.”

Perry played Chandler Bing for all of “Friends'” 10 seasons, growing from being Joey’s (Matt LeBlanc) sarcastic roommate and Ross’ (David Schwimmer) college buddy to Monica’s (Courteney Cox) husband. LeBlanc, Schwimmer and Cox are still expected to take part in the reunion, alongside co-stars Jennifer Aniston and Lisa Kudrow.

The NBC special honoring James Burrows will be filmed later this month to air Sunday, Feb. 21, at 9 p.m. ET/PT.

Basically the single cast member who didn’t make me want to punch him in the throat.

I never understood why people loved this show so much back in the day. I had to sit through a couple of episodes years ago (never saw the show before or since then) and didn’t laugh one time….

I have the same reaction to Family Guy. It’s all down to taste.

  • James Lewis

Yep, it’s all down to taste, There are people who actually think there is at least 10 minutes worth of comedy somewhere in the entire show of “Always Sunny in Philadelphia” or “Louie” having watched at least 20 hours of both of these shows, and having less than 1 minute total fun, it’s funny that people think this. (and don’t get me on Community, three seasons into that show, and I’m pretty sure I haven’t laughed once, friends produces a minimum of two laughs per episode. And none of them do I cringe or think I’m less of a human being for enjoying that 10 seconds)

Sunny is my favorite comedy since Seinfeld.
    That is all.

Yep. They could have said “only Matthew Perry will appear” and I’d be more interested than what it actually is.

  • jedibanner .

It was The Big Bang Theroy Of the 90’s.

  • FiachSidhe

Bullshit, he’s still playing Fallout 4. That’s why he can’t make it. ;p

  • Curious Joe

Totally! Its the same to me with Big Bang Theory, everyone loves it but me. And I don’t understand why.

You can’t be more wrong. If anything it’s like How I met Your mother of the 90’s. It has absolutely nothing in common with the TBBT

Friends isn’t really a show you can watch random episodes and truly “get” it. Too much of the humour is based on previous events, relationships and established mannerisms. Unlike Seinfeld where you can just pick a random episode and enjoy it, you don’t really get the “Friends” effect until you’ve watched serially.
