‘Masters of the Universe’ Gets ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’-Style Trailer

In 1987, Canon Films released “Masters of the Universe,” starring Dolph Lundgren before he knew how to speak English. Along with facing numerous production hurdles and major budget issues, the film turned out to be more of a B-movie than epic space opera, as some might have hoped.

Well, now you can imagine “Masters of the Universe” was something amazing as a fan has recut scenes from the film to John Williams’ score from “Star Wars” — resulting in a pretty awesome trailer.

Check out Michael Furth’s “Force Awakens”-inspired cut of the “Masters of the Universe” trailer below:

“Masters of the Universe” is available for instant streaming on Netflix, while “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” is in theaters now.

Imagine? This movie is STILL fantastic!!
I’ll hold up Langella to James Earl Jones any day!

    Don’t.

The movie blew my mind as a kid. I watched it so, so much.

Seeing it now, I can only laugh because of how cheesy it is.

    Still, I love it.

As an aside, I am pretty sure you can take that trailer music and set it to any fantasy or sci-fi film and it will make the material look amazing.

Lundgren certainly looked the part but Langella as Skeletor and Meg Foster as Evil-Lyn OWNED that movie.

  • The One and Only

Awesome trailer for an awesome flick. I’m honestly hard pressed to see how people, especially those who grew up in the 80’s, could hate this.

“Imagine”? Man, I don’t get all the hate that gets slung at this film. I’m glad there are others out there that enjoyed it as much as I did.

It really is a tragedy that Skeletor never got to fulfill his promise from the end credits (Langella was brilliant).

Actually, when I watched it in the theatre as a kid, I loved it. I was a bit disappointed that the characters didn’t look the way they did in the cartoons, but it was fun to watch in its own way.

I’ve been telling people that for years, Langella as Skeletor is one of the best movie villains of all-time, right up there with Vader. If only the movie overall (btw I love the movie) was better than more people would know how great he was in it.
