‘Avatar 2′ May Not Be Ready For Christmas 2017 After All

Just when it looked as if “Star Wars: Episode VIII” would go head to head with “Avatar 2,” a new report contends the James Cameron sequel won’t be ready in time for its targeted Christmas 2017 release date.

Although Fox declined comment, TheWrap cites unnamed sources that confirm the delay, the second for the sequel in about a year.

It’s worth noting that Fox never officially announced a release date for “Avatar 2,” but Cameron confirmed just last month that he and the studio were aiming for Christmas 2017, with “Avatar 3″ and “Avatar 4″ intended to follow in 2018 and 2019.

However, he said, “I don’t consider that to be as important as the fact that when we get all three films done, we drop them a year apart.”

TheWrap suggests the delay might further explain Disney’s decision this week to move “Star Wars: Episode VIII” from May 2017 to Christmas 2017. The studio pointed to “the extraordinary success” of “The Force Awakens” as the impetus for the date change, but the website theorizes executives also may have known they’d no longer be competing with “Avatar 2.”

Released in 2009, “Avatar” is the highest-grossing film of all time, with a box-office haul of $2.8 billion. “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” trails behind at No. 3, with $1.9 billion (and counting).

guess even the force is afraid of being no match against the navli . worse the two could wind up fighting for the crown again and james could wind up having a new record of the only director to have the highest grossing film of all time twice .or wind up as most figured crushed by the dark side

I really could care less about this movie at this point.

Cameron and Disney have a business arrangement so a direct competition with SW was never going to happen. Avatar was a massive gimmick that paid off but story wise it was terrible.

I predict Avatar 2 might be a massive flop. The first one benefited solely off buzz and the overall experience. Well, we’ve all become accustomed to 3D now and the actual movie wasn’t that great. So they’re gonna spend probably upwards of 300 million or more and what’s the sales hook? Come see the sequel to the most successful, mediocre movie of all time? Yeah, there may be trouble.

Avatar earned so much because it was the first blockbuster that fully utilized 3-D technology. Everyone I know went to the movie to see what 3-D was like. The movie itself was terrible. I do not see Avatar 2 coming even close to its predecessor’s haul.

Avatar was a weak rip off of Dances with Wolves except all the Injuns are Blue. James Cameron talks big but half the time he is just full of shit. He plans 3 more of these movies? Doubt they’ll get past one more if they even make that one.

Dude needs to just forget the Pandora universe and utilize the technology for something more original. Is he even still attached to Battle Angel at this point?

    Yeah…this movie is never happening.
