Screenwriter Clarifies Next ‘Labyrinth’ Is Not a Reboot

It turns out the next “Labyrinth” movie won’t be a reboot after all.

Screenwriter Nicole Perlman (“Guardians of the Galaxy”) took to Twitter to clear up rumors that the film would be a reboot, as The Hollywood Reporter previously indicated, and clarified that she begun work on the project roughly two years prior to star David Bowie’s death:

The original “Labyrinth” movie from 1986 was directed by Jim Henson, written by “Monty Python’s” Terry Jones and executive produced by George Lucas. The film follows 15-year old Sara (Jennifer Connelly), who sets off to reach the center of a maze to save her younger brother from the Goblin King (Bowie).

so if its not a remake maybe its an attempt at a sequel . like sarah’s brother has now become the new goblin king and wants payback on sarah for having him getting taken in the first place.

Either a sequel or a prequel, ok.

Hmm… The Goblin King is a master of illusions, so he could be played by anyone. And Sara’s story was not unique. There were many before her, and it would only make sense that there would be more after her. So this could just be another story, set in modern times, or done as a period piece. Perhaps the events in the movie are the origin of the the book that Sara reads.

Doesn’t matter what it is, it’s a bad idea either way.

Is there really a demand for this movie?

  • Salvador Paradisio

I would guess that the Goblin King appears in many forms and guises. I would guess that Sara was not the first person to mess with otherworldly powers beyond her. I would guess that the book from which she read the inciting poem was based on the first time this happened. This movie could be set in the present, or it could be a period piece, perhaps set long ago and the story of the upcoming movie itself is what inspired the book and poem from which Sara read.
