‘Ghostbusters’ Site Plays Up Support For Reboot From Aykroyd, Murray and More

ghostbusters-social

The official Ghostbusters website was relaunched overnight to focus on Paul Feig’s upcoming franchise reboot, beginning with those new stills. However, far more interesting than any photos is the prominent placement of “endorsements” from four key players from the original movies: director Ivan Reitman and stars Dan Aykroyd, Bill Murray and Ernie Hudson.

The quotes aren’t exactly new; they’re from remarks made over the past several months (Aykroyd, Murray and Hudson all have cameos in the new film, while Reitman is a producer). But they’re clearly being used by Sony Pictures in a somewhat-unusual move to help reassure longtime fans of the franchise, and perhaps to respond to those who have heaped negative comments on the female-led reboot for more than a year.

Feig himself fired back at critics in September on Twitter, explaining, ” I just suddenly hit the wall with the haters.”

Arriving July 15, “Ghosbusters” stars Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones.

Those who arent keen on a full Ghostbusters reboot with an SNL-led cast, arent going to be convinced by the quotes. No matter how glowing they are.

Sony’s best bet is to embrace the folks who really want to see this movie and adhere to that demographic as much as possible. Personally, I wont be watching it this summer.

It’s official, Bill Murray has lost his ever-lovin’ mind.

I think that Sony had a epiphany that this movie was a bad idea, but now they’re stuck with it. So now they’re trying to put that best face they can on it with this lame posting on the movie website. In a crowded summer schedule this movie would be better off released in late summer August/Sept or a Halloween release.

Speaking as a woman my problem isn’t with the female cast (obviously), it’s that this is an unnecessary reboot. It would have been so much smarter to have this take place in the same universe as the original films.

If this would be Ghostbusters 3, then you’d complain about them not giving the women their own spotlight in their own movie and doing their own “thing”. Which is what, the studio decided on that your now still…complaining…about…?.

Speaking as a guy, I whole heartedly agree with you.

Oh 33fokman, if you think I’m a SJW who sees misogyny everywhere she looks, then I’m afraid you don’t know me half as well as you might think.

You understand words differently to others huh?

  • Hadrian Mosley

Yeah should have been these people restarting this business that the guys abandoned (lack of ghosts maybe) and continuing on from the mythology.

  • Pohatu5

A female led GB 3 with Kylie Griffin, Janine Melnitz, and Melanie Ortiz could easily and entertainingly have been made. I know I would enjoy that movie.

These are things they generally have to promote by contract since most of them have a bit role in the movie.

  • Darren Singleton

    Garbage

  • J Smith

I don’t think Melissa was ever part of SNL

  • J Smith

Bill was saying good things about the movie before he sign on to do it

  • J Smith

Also just because your in a movie don’t mean you have to say good thing about it

  • CogInTheWheel

Yeah she was only host a couple of times I think. Wrote “SNL-led” because 3 of the 4 main characters are.

  • CogInTheWheel

Talk about putting words in someone’s mouth. Maybe let *them* form those opinions, instead of creating your own argument….

We get it, you talk to yourself A LOT.

  • J Smith

ops I mised that part sorry

  • CogInTheWheel

It’s all good, no worries :]

The quotes, especially the Ackroyd one, feel completely lifeless. Dan sold his soul to the devil and is now doing his best to live with it. Poor Harold Raimis must be spinning in his grave. I hope he haunts the creators of this new movie, and they wouldn’t be able to do a thing about it, since they obviously know nothing about busting ghosts. It’s got nothing to do with gender, and everything to do with the fact that they got some of the most unfunny people ever to star on SNL to headline it, and when complaints were raised about the obvious cash-in nature of the film, the creators ignore them and say people are just sexist. When Melissa McCarthy is the funniest person in your movie, you’re in serious trouble.

Speaking as a woman my problem isn’t with the female cast, it’s that they made it an all female cast because they thought it would appeal to the current trend in destroying good franchises for the sake of pretend diversity.

Like we are all meant to be cheering because it’s all female…. Well I have no plan to see it.

An yes, a reboot is dumb. I would have gone with a real life version of the Extreme Ghostbusters cartoon.
