‘Star Trek’ Alum Tony Todd is on the Short List for CBS’ Revival Series

“Star Trek” alum Tony Todd is returning to the final frontier. During his interview on the podcast MORTIS, he revealed he was on the short list for CBS’ “Star Trek” revival series.

“CBS is doing their own series again… I’m on a very short [casting] list,” he shared.

“It’s a year away. They’re not even going to get official cast until, probably, the fourth quarter of the year,” he added. “And my only concern about it is that it’s going to be that [CBS All Access] online thing; I don’t understand that part.”

“I’ve never done a series regular — I’ve always avoided it because I like playing different characters — but this is one year that we’re looking at some stuff, so I’m sure that we’re going to be popping up and everybody’s going to move on on sometime very soon,” he said.

Todd, who currently lends his voice to “The Flash’s” creepy villain Zoom, appeared on “Star Trek: The Next Generation” and”Star Trek: Deep Space Nine” as Worf’s brother Kurn and on “Star Trek: Voyager” as Alpha Hirogen.

Excutive produced and co-created by Bryan Fuller, the new “Star Trek” series will be the seventh in the franchise, and the first since the cancellation of “Star Trek: Enterprise” in 2005. Alex Kurtzman will oversee development of the project for CBS TV Studios and serve as executive producer.

The as-yet untitled new “Star Trek” show will first have a “special preview” on the CBS television network, before moving to CBS All Access, which is currently available for $5.99 a month.

Hmm, he really enjoys not being tied down to one character… But I can’t help but hope he gets to be a series regular. At the very least it will give him some consistent work and hopefully the show will provide an artistic challenge for him.

Bring him back as the older Jake Sisko. Loved him in that DS9 episode.

  • MikeTen

With all of the time that has gone by the actor that played younger Jake Sisko can probably play older Jake Sisko ;)

I wonder which timeline this will be in. Could it be a third? Multiverses are in fashion nowadays.

  • JounLord1

Probably the reboot verse though its still far too early to know. I doubt they have anything beyond a rough outline done so far.

F**k Yeah, Todd is AMAZING!!!! I’ll watch anything with him in it, even Star Trek on TV…

Are they trying to hijack Axanar? Bad form if so.

  • Spellchecker

Commander Kurn was my favorite character.

Apparently the rights are separated, so it couldn’t be the rebootverse even if they wanted it to.

I would prefer a series with the USS Relativity and the Department of Temporal Investigations.

They don’t need to hijack Axanar. Axanar is doing that very well by themselves.
