‘Ghostbusters’ Reboot Takes Control With First Trailer

FB_Ghostbusters

At long last, the first full-length trailer has arrived for “Ghostbusters,” director Paul Feig’s reboot of the beloved Sony Pictures franchise.

As you might expect, the trailer repurposes the iconic theme song as it introduces the new Ghostbusters — played by Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon, Melissa McCarthy and Leslie Jones — re-establishes the premise, and delivers the new origin of the Etco-1.

Opening July 15, “Ghostbusters” also stars Chris Hemsworth (who’s featured briefly in the footage), Andy Garcia, Michael K. Williams, Matt Walsh and Neil Casey, with cameos by franchise veterans Dan Aykroyd, Bill Murray, Ernie Hudson and Sigourney Weaver.

So who will the studio blame when this bombs? I’m betting this is the last big studio movie we ever see from Feig and the Wiig doesn’t get another starring role anytime soon.

Unfortunately due to her deal with Satan, McCarthy will probably be ok.

I can’t wait for the all-male quasi-reboot of Steel Magnolias. Because it’s never wrong to try to make things “equal” for no reason other than political correctness.

  • HumorPrint

Saw nothing special there. Don’t know if it’s the writing or some of the cast, but it seems almost a mockery of what they did originally where as this seems more camp than possibly intended??? Does not seem like the old guard had anything to do with this one, which I think would have made a better story (ie; old guard in Star Wars passing it off to the young ones)..

  • saiyanknight87

not hyped but not disappointed either. I’ll check this movie out when I get a chance. But definitely not the Ghostbuster 2 i thought it would be movie will probably get mixed reactions.

  • http://barkingschnauzer.net/ Spacedog2k5

Um.. no! I think this “grumpy old fan” wasn’t the person this reboot was made for!

  • bmales01

    Easy pass

This worked in the 80s when silly premise movies could fly and certain comedians could deliver unbelievably stupid lines with some modicum of comic realism, but in 2016 this just doesnt work. They look like they are being serious which isnt funny

  • MysteriousStranger

Tried to give it a chance. Didn’t even crack a smile.
Can’t believe Murray agreed to this tripe, while turning Aykroyd down for decades.

  • bmales01

Some of their movies can be funny, like Bridesmaids, which took a real situation and made it humorous and endearing

Its when McCarthy does stupid premise movies (eg, Tammy) that they are just terrible and unwatchable.

And this premise just doesnt seem to work in 2016

  • bmales01

I’d give it a chance when its on cable

Definitely not the worse tripe I’ve seen Hollywood create

  • anonnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn

What’s with all the ghost money shots?

  • forgot my name

    It looks fun.

  • bmales01

    because getting slimed is hilarious

didnt you learn anything from You Cant Do That on Television?

  • Lucia Lola

I can’t wait for this! Looks awesome!

  • Jghrbts

Ah, you see it only works one way with these types. Men will almost be extinct before they will be useful again.

  • dekko

1 — Looks like almost the exact same story beats as the first two movies – not a great sign.
2 — 30 years later, we can have female scientists, but still not a black scientist? Maybe the next reboot…

  • Dillinger23

Nice to see we’ve moved on so much from the 80s and the three white people are all scientists, and the black person ‘don know nothin bout no science, but ah shure as hell know Noo Yoik’. Yawn. FYI I’m a white English male.

  • Dillinger23

I make the same point as no.2 above. bit weird isn’t it.

  • DaveCable

Wow, I’m surprised that 30 years later the black Ghostbuster still couldn’t be a scientist. Talk about sticking to the formula.

  • Phil Clark

That looked a bit better than I expected it to be. Still, just a first trailer.

  • Mike Hunt-Hurtz

“4” scientists? You mean 3 scientists and some guy who walked in off the street. It’s like they haven’t even seen it.

  • KJJio

No one is going to see this movie.

  • red vector

About as funny as projectile diarrhea with no toilet paper.

  • CeeCeeCee

Grrrooow up man. No one is forcing you to watch this. No harm will come to you from other people enjoying it. Quit whining about Political Correctness and do something meaningful with your life.

  • Charlie Esser

Really don’t get the negativity I’m seeing for the trailer. It looks pretty good. My biggest complaint was their initial suggestion of four scientists saving the world, but upon further investigation it seems Winston did in fact earn a doctorate after the second film. http://ghostbusters.wikia.com/wiki/Winston_Zeddemore

That said I am still suspicious of Peter Venkmen’s credentials. This may be a bit broader than the original ghostbusters, but that is true of a great deal of comedy, and it isn’t necessarily a worst thing.

I for one welcome this new group of Busters, heck it could be better than the original, and will very likely be better than the original sequel.

  • red vector

The people who will be enjoying this will be few and far between.

  • Hypestyles

Slimer needs to talk and be the team mascot.

  • Doodlee Pigvirus

looks awesome. Kate McKinnon and the ghostbusting fist were the highlights for me. :)

  • Doodlee Pigvirus

that is a little disappointing. they should have made Leslie Jones a scientist and ditched one of the white ladies for Margaret Cho, making her the streetwise subway attendant. two stereotypes with one stone.

  • red vector

The reaction to this trailer is overwhelmingly negative on every entertainment website. I suspect that this will be 2016’s Fantastic Four and will probably be a bigger flop due to it’s higher budget.

  • woodroad34

30 years ago I was there for the original. I was mildly trepidatious about this — but I laughed during the trailer. I think it will be fine. My favorite line: “The power of panic commands you!” Some of the original writers are back (unfortunately Harold Ramis is no longer with us).

  • Frankie Smales

I see a little exorcist spoof going on in this trailer kind of reminds me of
that exorcist parody repossessed with Leslie Nielsen and Linda Blair
from the early 90’s but very funny trailer also it has that the haunted mansion
vibe but kate is my fave so far .
    frankie smales.

  • John Plugger Mellencamp

Man, CBR is really pimping this thing to high heaven aren’t they? Two posts about the same trailer, with this one claiming it “takes control.”

  • http://johntwentyfive.com/blog 1025x

What? “Could be better than the original . . . ” So you’ve never seen it?

  • anonnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn

    HA!

  • Mr.Mystery

Yeah, this didn’t seem special or unique to me like the original film.
They would have been better played as a sequel to the originals with the original guys
handing off the legacy to another group (heck–even use the original Ecto-1 and the Firehouse (now they are above a Chinese Resturant?–sigh) to provide more continuity)…

  • Mr.Mystery

When they’re using other movies as a reference instead of the Original Ghostbusters, then you will backlash like you’re seeing against this trailer.

  • Chad

This is a sequel to the originals. That’s why the trailer mentioned the events of the originals. Dan Aykroyd will be in it. Ernie Hudson will be in it. William Atherton will be in it. It’s going to be fine.

CeeCeeCee, you don’t know me so I’ll excuse your ignorance. I spent a whole career protecting this nation from terrorists and criminals before I got hurt beyond repair. I did this so little peckerwoods on the internet can share their opinions without worrying about offending someone and getting their head lopped off. Those same little morons who have great big balls when they’re safely behind their keyboards tend to be very scared children in person, if you get what I’m saying. I believe this movie is going to suck. I believe it’s stupid to genderswap for the sake of political correctness. I’m entitled to an opinion, and you’re entitled to your own. But you dont have to make it personal unless you’re willing to do it in person, to my face. Okay kid? Have a super day.

But, last time I read anything about this movie, it was a reboot not a sequel (which is even stranger when you have cameos from some of the original cast–they must be playing other roles, not the characters they portrayed in the original movie, which will make this even more awkward to watch).

Patty (Leslie Jones’ character) is actually a municipal historian. Just FYI.

  • Jezzer

    Oh God, shut up. NO1CURR.

  • Richard Novak

Jezzer, another keyboard warrior pussy who cant use his real name out of fear. Tough guy, nobody cares what you think either. Go get back on your fat wife and fuck off.

  • Brian Langlois

Well, that trailer sure wasn’t funny. It looked pretty, but it was so not funny. This looks similar to the Robocop remake – looks slick, but completely misses the point.

  • huhuhv

You have a hard time paying attention, don’t you?

  • hvgf

All female cast ain’t PC. It’s activism pure and simple under the false guise of diversity. It’s just about as hateful and as manipulatively evil as they can get.

  • dushipose

    You dumb.

  • BeastieRunner

Winston has multiple degrees, a PhD, and was a Marine. The script, deleted scenes, and movie novelization mention this.

His scientist background is canonized in the official sequel video game, too. His Marine past has been canonized in lots of other official sources, too.

Reitman, Akroyd, and Ramis mentioned leaving this out of the final cut and script because Winston allowed the technobabble terms to be put into layman’s terms due to his background. People would assume he had a strong background academically because he constantly puts the terms into perspective for the audience.

    Watch the commentary sometime man!

  • uhyfgdy

They say the primary benefactors to Affirmative Action is, after all, women. Makes you wonder why we’re still made to bend over for more.

  • butters911

I was in the military too, so i can say this, its pathetic how guys like you are so threatened because they gave a franchise to women. Who cares about your military career when responding to your comment about a movie. Do you throw your service in everyone’s face when you get in an argument. But I cant be wrong cause patriotism.

  • boghll

It’s about over representing a demographic at the expense of a insidious and pernicious activism. Quite like saying everyone involved in Desert Storm were women or everyone that puts out fires in any city are women only because it serves their agenda. These people are no better than the National Socialist that preceded them at least as far as their hate.

  • ZigZagWave

Horribly unfunny and lame trailer. This looks awful.

  • Michael Alden

I’ll take it for what it is. It has four pretty funny ladies, ghosts, a hunky man I mean yas.

  • Mike Hunt-Hurtz

The PhD didn’t come until after he first got the job. And expanded universe crap is the worst kind of canon. It’s little better than headcanon.

It’s in the same vein as Jurassic World: a reboot wrapped in a sequel. The events of the past aren’t forgotten, but a new group is taking over now.

  • Justin

But if you’re “broken beyond repair”, what could you possibly do? Complain and overstate your servitude to a false-flag war?

  • Justin B

    Thank you- you get it.

  • Justin

Or, the director and studio thought this would be different, and that people would enjoy it. Not everything is an agenda to destroy the white man. Goddam, Carrie Fisher was the only lead female in the original Star Wars… it is some kind of agenda that, in The Force Awakens, they have her AND Daisey Riddley?

Get over it. Whatever happens with this movie, if it’s popular or fails, won’t be because they somehow upset all of white mankind because they cast four women as the leads.

  • CeeCeeCee

I’m more than willing to tell you to grow up and quit whining about how the PC Agenda is taking your 80s movies away from you.

I don’t care if you were in Desert Storm, served in Iraq or fought in The ‘Nam. It’s all for naught if you’re using it as an excuse to make thinly veiled “Say that to my face and I’ll kick your ass” statements on a comic book forum. If anything you say is true then you should have the sense of perspective to see just how little an all female Ghostbusters movie affects your life and just how petty you look for complaining about it.

    Like I said, grow up.
