In a clear sign of confidence in the property, a sequel to 20th Century Fox’s “Assassin’s Creed” film is already in motion — more than nine months before the release date of the first movie. As reported Friday afternoon by The Tracking Board, production company New Regency is moving forward with a sequel for the video game-based film, with star Michael Fassbender in tow.

The first “Assassin’s Creed” film is set to start Fassbender and Marion Cotillard, along with director Justin Kurzel — who all worked together on 2015’s “MacBeth” adaptation. The movie is set in the same world as Ubisoft’s “Assassin’s Creed” video games, but is not a direct adaptation of a previous story. Here’s the official logline: “Through a revolutionary technology that unlocks his genetic memories, Callum Lynch (Michael Fassbender) experiences the adventures of his ancestor, Aguilar, in 15th Century Spain. Callum discovers he is descended from a mysterious secret society, the Assassins, and amasses incredible knowledge and skills to take on the oppressive and powerful Templar organization in the present day.”

“Assassin’s Creed” is scheduled for release on Dec. 21.

The last two films with that philosophy were Green Lantern and Fantastic Four. Just saying. (I actually want this to be a success actually, film history needs a great video game movie. If only they weren’t releasing the week after Rogue One…)

I know right, who’d would have thought Deadpool would be such a hit and this movie as far as I know has NONE of the hype that movie did. Could turn out to be a real egg on face move.

I have a feeling this will be really good. Macbeth would have been good with a more streamlined modern approach but it was cool for what it was, Im just saying with the right screen play the macbeth team could do something truly great. (like kingdom of heaven which is what I always saw an AC film striving to be)

Ac imo always had a narrative that seemed like it was just as good for a movie as it was for a video game(the first one)

so Im looking forward to this because the game will translate just fine if you try not to make a film based on a game but a film set in the world of the game.

hopefully they get that and dont try to incorporate lame gameplay gimmicks. make it natural dont over do his abilities, do it in a subtle and realistic way and show how his skills are just a bit more complex than a normal persons.

Show he can do things but not through cheap cgi or super powers. his eagle vision should just let him know things are there and we should see that plays out but without seeing stuff light up and get all sci fi. less is more in movies.
