Zack Snyder Mulls ‘300’ Sequels Set in Other Eras

300

After directing the blockbuster 2006 adaptation of Frank Miller’s “300” and producing its 2014 follow-up “300: Rise of an Empire,” Zack Snyder is contemplating a return to the franchise — or at least the concept and style.

Talking with Collider, the filmmaker left over the possibility of another “300” sequel, but one with a dramatically different setting.

“There may be. There may be,” he said. “We’ve been talking a lot about sort of different incarnations of ‘300.’ We’ve been talking about is there a way, possibly, we move out of Ancient Greece and use it as a framing device for other conflicts that happened throughout history.

“I think I mentioned that we talked about the Revolutionary War version,” he continued, “and we talked about the Alamo, and we’ve talked about there’s a battle in China, a ‘Lost Legion’ kind of concept, any of those kinds of things are on the table.”

The “Revolutionary War version” is presumably the “300”-style take on a George Washington film that Snyder mentioned in a recent Forbes profile. “We were talking about it,” said the director, who has the painting of Washington crossing the Delaware hanging in his office. “The first thing we asked was, well, how are we going to make it look? I pointed at this painting. It looks like ‘300.’ It’s not that hard.”

I would love an American Revolution movie just to see Paul Revere scream at a British soldier: This is Boston!

McDonald’s assembly line approach to history. No wonder he says it’s easy.

Seems kind of typical of Hollywood to dumb everything down.

It really depends on how a particular story lends itself to the classic “few versus many” trope. At any rate, Snyder should stick to adaptations, where he has more strength.

Wasn’t 300 based off the graphic novel? Are there sequels to the original novel or na? I ask because if not, then this seems kinda pointless and will further show they riding off style over substance (the 300 “prequel”).. I would rather them leave it as it is.. That’s what makes 300 so special.
