Guillermo del Toro reveals that the highly anticipated live-action Hulk TV pilot is “in a holding pattern” while ABC waits for a certain writer — “a very, very concrete name” — becomes available to tackle a new draft of the script.
ABC has passed on AKA Jessica Jones, a drama pilot based on Marvel’s Alias series created by Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Gaydos. However, network President Paul Lee remains hopeful that the live-action revival of The incredible Hulk could be a possibility for the 2013-2014 season.
Although Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige essentially dismissed the likelihood of a third Hulk movie, Marvel’s president of consumer products suggests that initial response to the character in The Avengers could lead to another solo outing within three years.
Filmmaker Guillermo del Toro says he and David Eick are drawing on Marvel comics, not the big-screen universe, as inspiration for the live-action television series. “The movies have their own continuity,” he says.
Network President Paul Lee said ABC is “aggressively” developing the two Marvel comics properties, and approaching The Hulk as “family entertainment.”
The filmmaker has offered an update, saying that he and David Eick have turned in a rewritten outline to ABC for the planned live-action series.
Hellboy director Guillermo del Toro and Battlestar Galactica executive producer David Eick reportedly are finalizing a deal to create the new Incredible Hulk TV series for Marvel and ABC. Del Toro will oversee the monster’s design, and direct the pilot if he’s available.
