When all the receipts are counted, the action-drama End of Watch is expected to pull ahead of the horror-thriller House at the End of the Street to lead a mediocre weekend at the North American box office. Dredd 3D, meanwhile, opened in a dismal sixth place.
With Lawless, director John Hillcoat returns to the themes of sibling strife, lawlessness and brutality, delivering a violent, arresting and beautiful drama — complete with powerful performances by stars Tom Hardy and Shia LaBeouf — about bootlegging brothers in Prohibition-era Virginia.
The Weinstein Company has released the first trailer for Lawless, the John Hillcoat-directed Prohibition-era crime drama starring Shia LaBeouf, Tom Hardy, Gary Oldman, Guy Pearce and Jessica Chastain. It opens Aug. 31.
